One thing the Dunhill critics failed to mention is that the pipes :P come in a really nice box! :P

Is Dunhill pipe brand worth it? A short synopsis of my various comments would be, in terms of an appropriate price for an outstanding smoking pipe, no they're overpriced.

Higher cost of a pipe is justified if there is more human involvement. That is what I just learned.

For my money new Dunhills are over priced. I still love the way they look and have been pining after this Ruby Bark but would never spend the coin for it.

That is kind of where I land: Peterson has iconic shapes, sure, but Dunhill's take on classic shapes really define them. I have never purchased a new Dunhill, to be sure. I certainly own a lot of estate ones, though. All mine smoke great and I have gotten a couple for $80 or less and smoke them in knockabout situations.
So while I prefer Charatans and a couple others, I certainly do searches for reasonably priced estate Dunnys.
The resale value (usually) on them certainly doesn't hurt either, if you take care of them.

Mr English, it is a beauty for sure.
Salt, that price is in euros so it is more like 650.00 US dollars. I can certainly afford it but I have a problem spending that much on one pipe. I can buy 2 Larrysson's for less. My last pipe purchase was my Bruce Weaver Volcano and a Ruthenberg Caliper grade Dublin. It cost me 600.00 for both and they were brand new. I bought both of them at the exact same time from one of Pipestud's auctions. I don't know why spending that much for one pipe bugs me so much. I just cannot pull the trigger even though I really want to.

Harris, I have to admit I find that one attractive; it's quite nice, but I agree with you. I could drop the hammer on it, but I just don't find it worth it.

OMG! 650. That's orbital.
Good thing the question wasn’t, “is an S. Bang worth it?” Or a Castello Fiammata. Or a high grade Larsen. Or a Former. Or... I get that not everyone can or wants to spend hundreds on a pipe, but a new Dunhill is nowhere near the top of the price spectrum.

Those are artisan pieces, whereas Dunhills are mostly factory made.
Dunhill is nowhere near the top of the price spectrum.
As far as factory pipes go, they're pretty close.

I adore Dunhill shaping. There's no one who does classical shaping better. I recall looking at Dunhill full-bents on Al Pascia being almost in tears by the perfection of the curve of the stems. I adore the Amber Root finish but not the associated price. So there's good things about them but the prices are outrageous.

I concur Saltedplug.

The latest arrivals of full bent Dunhills at alpascia and even sp have been quite nice.

The shaping is more in line with their pipes from the earliest days.
