Here's one for you guys. It's not that important of a question, but I was wondering. Me and the wife are going to Michigan this weekend too visit friends. There are 4 of them, who all smoke cigarettes inside, all the time. Me being a pipe smoker, do I need to ask permission to smoke my pipe inside? I would think it would only help the current smell of the room.

What do you guys and gals think?
Fixed thread title, please see rule number 9. Pertinent portion: Please capitalize words in the thread titles. Thank you, Robert.

If it's not your property, it's always polite to ask first. Yes, even though cig smoke inside is f'ing rancid.

Yep. Always be polite, even though there's no way you can make the stench of four people smoking cigarettes indoors any worse. Hell, I doubt they'll even smell your pipe smoke.

It's not that pipes smell as bad as nails, but that they smell different. It's that the odor that hangs in the air isn't theirs. So ask. They'd be nuts to say no, but that would be worth knowing. And as mentioned, it's the polite thing to do.

I would walk in smoking your pipe and act like you don't have a care in the world. If they say anything, just say if I have to breathe your nasty cigarette smoke, you can smell my pipe.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission, but seriously if the say anything get new friends or do the polite thing.

I think while it is certainly important to be polite to people, there really is no point of asking whether you can smoke anything in a room with 4 smokers. Just smile and light up.My opinion ofcourse.

Agree, Mr. Panda!
I found it annoying that on a cruise on a Princess line ship, SF-Mexico-SF, that they tried to limit the small deck area for smoking limited to cigarettes! (Same in casino, but I don't casino much). Pipes and cigars were relegated to one lounge completely enclosed. The outdoor area was used by us pipe smokers, and the cigar smokers, and no one was thrown in the brig.

Ask for sure. I noticed that pipe smoke does not linger as much as cigarettes or cigars. Usually you can't smell it the day after, not like cigarettes!
