I’ve recently started collecting systems. They’re quickly becoming the pipes I reach for the most. I like the higher grade Pete’s for the vulcanite stems and aesthetics.
One thing to keep in mind is cleaning a system is just a bit more messy. Ideally you’ll want both a bristle and non bristle cleaner. Use the non bristle to soak up all the condensation that’s accumulated in the system reservoir. I bend the ends into U shapes for better absorption. This is the first step, once it’s extracted then go about dumping ash and using the bristle brush cleaner as you normally would.
I use twisted up napkins as they absorb the moisture much better than a pipe cleaner. Put it in, invert to clean out the dottle from the bowl and ready to go.

I'm with @FLDRD in that with only a few exceptions, I smoke only Pete's, and I've made it to the stage in my smoking career that I'll only smoke Pete's that are complete system pipes with a condenser.

If you are just starting out, a system standard is fine (especially if you are unsure if you are going to like their nuances)...
Same. But some people think cobs are the greatest thing ever. Good for them. Good for us. Everyone's happy.

It might be helpful if someone who can post pics would post one or two of the p-lip . W/an explanation ,

I don't know what a "p-lip" is myself ...............

These are Peterson System pipes. The P-Lip is the part you stick in your mouth. The intent is to direct the smoke to the roof of your mouth.

Get a Falcon , cheaper and better.😅
Nothing sad about that comment. It's the truth of the matter. I've got Peterson's in my drawer that gurgle and block up. Change the bowl on my Falcon daily and it's good to go everyday and delivers a terrific smoke right down to the bottom of the bowl.
If you love your Peterson's they must be right and good smokers for you .

As an owner of both Pete's and Falcons I must say there is no comparison.
Peterson is the hands down winner. My Petersons deliver a consistent and reliable smoking experience regardless of the weather. Rain, snow, wind and heat never dampen my smoking experience when I reach for one of my Petes.
The price point on Petersons while higher than falcons is more than worth the cost. Whenever I pick up one of my Petes I already know it will meet all of my expectations for a reliable and cool smoke.:sher:

Fair enough , that is your experience.
Mine is the opposite.
Whatever works for you is right , there are no rules.

To head off the guys who will claim it burns the roof of their mouth (yes, amazingly, it's happened ;)), it doesn't actually go straight to the roof - it just diverts the smoke.
The way I smoke my straight billiards, the smoke hits the roof of my mouth. I've never gotten tongue bite, but get roof rash occasionally. The plip is no different for me in that aspect. But it definetly hits the roof of my mouth haha.

Lets put it this way, i attempted to smoke P Lip System pipe more than forty five years ago and failed, my next attempt was two weeks ago after buying a new old stock System pipe at a knock down price. Before I fired up I read everything I could find about the P Lip and the System pipe, once broken in carefully the pipe proved to be a joy and I returned last week to the tobacconist and bought three more new old stock Peterson P Lip System pipes. More than fifty years of pipe smoking and I’ve not enjoyed any previous pipe I've owned and smoked as much as I have these four Petersons. Quality is great engineering is precisely as it should be, the System does exactly what it says on the label the P Lip once seen by me as an instrument of torture now feels more comfortable than a Fishtail. Maintenance and correct disassembled parking when not in use are essential but the pleasure dividend is enormous making a little more effort worthwhile.

Better In its price range, other than the four Petersons I recently purchased I’ve no other manufacturers similar System pipe to compare them to and am unable to comment.
