Go for it! don't look for any dissuasion here. if you need an excuse, then: "oh yeah, easily 2x, no 3x! better than a same price Savinelli!" :col:
Seriously though, i love my System Petes. And my Savs.

You can find an estate Peterson System Standard for a few dollars and try it out before buying a new one. All the Petersons I own are a different smoking experience compared to my other pipes so it's something to be aware of.

I hate to say it but I have four Peterson and four Savinellis. I'm a big Savinelli fan but now find myself reaching for my Petes before my Savinellis.

But if I'm totally honest, I find myself reaching for my Ardor, two Ascorti's and two Rinaldos just as often.

I don't know if I would say a Peterson system is better than other pipes in the same price range. I would say they are different, and because of that are worth trying.

what would you consider the best pipe for $100
Personally, I would look at Stanwell or Ropp over Petes. Everyone has their own opinions. I am not a fan of Peterson pipes and especially Systems. Just my own 2 pennies. Actually, for $100, I would be more apt to pick up an even better (IMO) estate pipe. Pre transition Comoy’s, GBD, BBB pipes can all be found in that range.

Genod though Falcons are amazing for the price.

Peterson is sloppy about stain application and often results in stain in the chamber and mortise. The smooth ones often have lacquered finishes that are prone to bubbling and the P-lips are quite devisive.

You'll never get agreement on "better", no matter the brand.
I started with "regular" pipes with fishtail stems.
Eventually I somehow tried a system pipe with a P-lip.
They are most assuredly "different".
And yes, the cleaning sequence is "different" as well.
But now, unless I'm gifted a pipe (Secret Santa), P-lips are all I'll purchase, and most of those are a system of one style or another.
I've loads of system standard, some deluxe, supreme, etc. But one that's surprising is the system spigot - I find it works quite well, even though it's not complete in the original design requirements. (The short army pipes work the same too....)
You need to try "different" if you're so inclined, and forget the elusive "better".
