Irish Clay Pipe Making (Video)

I was lurking around youtube when I found this quick and interesting video about making clay pipes in Ireland. They manage to include both a practical demonstration and a bit of history. I was surprised when she said most of her pipes were bought for the novelty, instead of for smoking. Seems a bit of a waste... :?

I was inspired to order a black clay cutty from Dawnmist Studios. It has a date with some Brown Irish X rope for that genyouwine 18th century experience. I may need to send up a rescue flag up the mainmast.

How long does it take to get through a typical bowl?

Its a small bowl but being a clay it gets hot so I take my time 30-45 minutes. Your results may differ. I'll post the bowl measurements later.
