Greetings from a lurker and relatively new member. I started pipe smoking in 1979. Rich’s in Portland was my local shop. (A friend suggested Three Nuns, and I still have the empty tin.) Not long after I took to cigars and abandoned pipe smoking for 30 years. Three years ago on a bitter cold night I craved a smoke and decided it was too cold to smoke outside. I never smoked cigars indoors, but I figured that a pipe might be acceptable. So I pulled the only pipe I had – a Bari freehand from 1979 – and fired up some 30 year old Rich’s pipe tobacco. The smoke was far from perfect due entirely to the fact that I didn’t know what I was doing, but it got me interested in learning more. The internet, including this forum, made getting up to speed fairly easy.
I now have 120 pipes – the bulk of which are Savinelli, Dunhill, Castello, Ser Jacopo, Sasieni and Caminetto estate pipes. Also in the mix are pipes by GBD, Mark Tinskey, Rinaldo, Tom Spanu and Baldo Baldi.
On the tobacco front I have about 300 tins, 70 of which were vintage purchases. In all I have 81 tobacco blends, all of which are jarred. Dunhill, GL Pease, Samuel Gawith, MacBaren are heavily represented.
I enjoy reading posts on this forum and figured it was time to say hi. That is all for now. Time for a smoke and a whiskey!
