Hello everyone, just wanted to say hi, I'm new to the forum and new to pipe smoking. As many here, I went to pipe smoking from been a cigarette smoker for many years, I was diagnosed with plurisy and cigarettes were causing me severe chest pains, therefore I tried the pipe smoking. I have come to really enjoy pipe smoking even after bad tongue bite and some tongue burns that occured by smoking a to wet of tobacco. As a later learned I wasn't smoking the tobacco I was inhaling vapor. Painful, yet I have not stopped with my pipes. I began on the 11 of this month after several trials and errors I think I have gotten the hank of it. Though I read that some pipe smoking vets still have a bad pipe here and there.
Now, I am learning about tobaccos and so far its a bit difficult as where I live there are limited of places to buy the tobacco. I usually go to one smoke shop that does sell pipe tobacco but nothing like big brand names. They sell everything by bulk. So, wanted to get everyone's opinion on what are good tobaccos, from the english blends, Va blends, aromatics, etc. Any help would be very helpful, thank you all ahead of time.

Welcome, from one noobie to another.
I found myself in the same situation, and for the most part, still do. Ive been ordering tobacco online and trying all I can get my hands on. To my surprise, I really have not found one yet that I could say I dont like, but I definitely like some more than others.
Im sure someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along shortly with some good advice.

Sebastian thanks, it's not good that we have this trouble finding the tobacco, I envy those that can go to the corner store and get them some without the wait. lol.
Roth, thanks as well. I will be checking out those sites you put on their. Any help is better than no help. Also, thanks on giving me those tobacco names, I will be checking out for some samples. The tobacconist near here is a bit on the greedy side because he knows he's the only one out here. Overall thanks or the advise.

welcome freddysmoker28

I wish I could find a tobacco shop near me that sold Bulk, LOL.

If they sell bulk they most likely sell 1Q, possibly under another name.

IMHO Carter Hall and 1Q are a couple of the best baccy's out there.

Happy Puffing

Freddy welcome aboard.
Just a tip. Don't be too hasty on judging your tobacco. Sometimes its better in a different pipe, needs a different prep method, or just plain didn't work out for that particular bowl.
There's some stuff I almost tossed but instead I've come back too later on and really enjoyed it.

Thanks everyone for the help. Just finished having a bowl of some "Dulin" thats what was on the jar at the tobacco shop. Very good, now was gonna ask. Does it really make a difference if you mix different types of tobaccos in one pipe.

Thanks roth, thats what I was thinking. Ive read so much about how you should have one pipe for one flavor of tobacco. My main interpretation I got was that as long as you let your pipes rest, everything should be fine. Am I right or wrong here???

That I understand better. It makes sense you wanna keep certain blends with each other therefore not mixing them. Thanks roth you've been great help.

Welcome Freddy. I am a believer in dedicating my pipes. I find for me that I get more of the flavors of a certain blend by doing this. In terms of what blends you might like you have received some excellent suggestions. I don't know if you are ready to try flake tobaccos yet, but they are my favorites and it is all I smoke. Here are a few of my favorite flakes that are readily available. Many of us start our with aromatics or English blends but then we gravitate towards flakes, it was that way with me. I started out as an English smoker but then soon got into flakes, and I have never looked back. If you are interested then you should read up on them and consider using the cube cut method for preparing your flakes. I have found this method works best for me and is the easiest way to get a consistent burn with great flavors.
Virginia Flakes:

Fribourg & Treyer Cut Virginia Plug

Solani Silver Flake
Virginia/Perique Flakes

Escudo

Solani 633
Virginia/Burley flake

Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired

freddysmoker28,
Welcome Aboard! You do not have to try everything. You could never do it in a lifetime. Try different blends from different blenders and don't smoke the real moist stuff. Dryer is better! Keep notes on what you like and what they contain for ingredients tobaccos and flavor. That will be very helpful.
