Or a pipe chart stored on his HDD! —Or I guess that's old fashioned now that HDs are being replaced by solid state memory.
I prefer physical copy over digital myself. Too much risk of loss or corruption.

Forums tends to attract pipe smokers who obsess over the details, though I don't think many of us would disparage a pipe smoker who didn't. It fascinates me how people, and especially carvers and pipe manufacturers, identify traditional shapes, and how shapes often merge. I had a Christmas pipe from my wife that I called a brandy until I saw the invoice in the sofa cushion and saw the carver called it an apple. I torture pipe purchases, usually having a contest in my head over four or five pipes, trying to decide between them. I remember minutia and stories about most of them that surface when I am packing and lighting up each one. I should probably be enraptured instead about people and the details of their lives, their biographies, and family backgrounds and such. To an extent I do. But the pipes, too, come with narratives and memories, and that's part of the fascination for me.

That name rarely if ever comes up, most just call it a zulu or yacht. This is often the gold standard for traditional shapes.

For those who might be interested, here are 2 examples of the Woodstock shape. The top one is a Castello from 1964 and the bottom one is a pipe I made in the late 90s. puffy

Don't be daft! Reasonably well managed digital assets are much safer than paper.
Watch the name calling. Nothing is managed well enough digitally to prevent all corruption, viruses, and hacking. I trust physical copy in a fire proof safe more than firewalls, barriers, and VPNs out there.

If you're looking for something to invest your money in that will retain it's value even in the most catastrophic situation, I suggest guns and booze. puffy

Like all passions/hobbies there are those who want to learn as much as possible about the topic and those who merely enjoy it. The way I approach my passions/hobbies is to do the first for a while and then try to forget it all and just do the second. The best approach is somewhere inbetween and to not overthink it in my humble opinion.
Somewhere along the way, I started browse these forums for more time than I smoke....
I guess that makes me an enthusiast.
I blame the cold weather.

an Enthusiasts Level of a beautiful pipe collection, and knowledge, ... he claims he only smokes for the nicotine
Chasing is possibly my favorite poster to stumble across.
Your summary is extremely spot-on.
Very mysterious.

Not to mention intentional changes to the source-material by the publisher/keeper! Seems everything digital is transient.

No name calling, just labelling a fear-based and parochial concept of safe storage. You trust what you trust: totally fine. Just the opinion that digital storage cannot be safer than paper. It can.
