I agree with TopD 100%.
My older brother hates any sort of smoke, and I know it, so I never bring it up. Ever. I know it'll spark some sort of disagreement, so I'd rather just avoid the situation all together.
She doesn't want you to smoke around her, her or appartment, so you should respect that. No matter who she is dating, no matter what her past is like, and no matter what anyone else thinks or says. Her roof, Her rules.

She probably is just worried about you. My mom grew up with cigarette smokers and both her parents ended up dying from it. She is anti-smoking and I don't blame her for it. Some times if you care about someone you just have to respect their wishes. Don't bring it to her house and don't mention it at all. That is about all you can do.

That's who you're dealing with here. It's all about me, me, me and if it isn't about placating ME then YOU are the problem.
There really isn't any point in arguing with this sort of person.

I totally agree with your sister in that we are 'killing; ourselves in a way (man I do hate to say it!!! Knock on wood!), and if we smoke at a confined, indoor, non-well-ventilated room, we are not only exposing the others around us to the harmful substances that our pipe gives off (no matter how well they smell), but we also are PASSIVE smokers of our own tobacco, as well as 'active' ones.
That being said, we smoke because we enjoy the taste, we -or many of us, if not most- do not consciously inhale, and if we respect others (which you obviously do, offering to go out and smoke!), it is kind of fine I guess.

I wouldn't say the same for cigarette because we have been exposed to movies, ads etc that kind of predispose you to smoke them... But pipes, well they are different, and we usually start them because we like the whole ritual!
But let us not forget, it is harmful nevertheless!
