Hi folks, whilst reading the description of a recent Dunhill pipe sold on Ebay I saw that the seller had added the following info to her original listing...
"I'm informed that because of the X stamped over Dunhill, that this could be one of the pipes made in the 1980's by disgruntled Dunhill and Charatan's workshop staff that were sacked, taking some pipes and original 1940's Dunhill stamping tools with them. If this is the case, then what we have here is a 1980's Dunhill pipe stamped with a 1948 Dunhill patent mark. I don't know 100% that this is one of the 1980's remakes, but bidders should assume it is and bid accordingly.
I understand that because these pipes were only made in small numbers by ex-Dunhill carvers they now have a value as a collectible in their own right, but you should be clear on what you may be buying."
...I cannot vouch for the veracity of the statement but thought it perhaps might be useful to the Dunhill buffs on the forum.
Regards,
Jay.
PS: The pipe incidently went for £120
