Thanks. I love this pipe. By some miracle the original finish was in fantastic shape beneath the grime. Most of my favorite pipes are the ones where I spent more time on repairs than a normal sane person would.
We don't see that town shape often, and that example looks fantastic!

As with Scott's pipe the finish was in fine condition under the dirt.
The oxidation on the stem was easily removed without too much loss of material.
The bit was fine.
On the pics. the rim is yet to be polished.

I didn't have to do anything to the rim on mine except clean it. As the photos show, my bit was horrid; however, it was a straight auction for $93 all-in, so it's hard to complain. With minimum wage labor, I guess it costs me $400?
Between you and me - I made an offer, asked a bunch of questions, voiced concerns...
...my offer was rejected and no questions responded to. Kind of a red flag.

It's a rare enough shape that I'm certain it's worth more, but I'm not a big fan of that shape and I already have too many rare Petersons that I don't smoke.
The winning bidder did well.
I paid $195 for mine, 10 years ago...(from at the time, a premiere ebay seller)
Another bone chimney 'hand cut' De Luxe Peterson sold today - this is only the second sandblasted one I've seen and neither had great blasts.

This beautiful Peterson full bent proves just that. Almost all of of the waterglassed bowl is still exposed and stem is extra clean. The sump is bare briar and the Sterling is particularly sterling-y.

No, it's an anomaly or two people who 'had to win at any cost' - that price is way above current market value for a post-1963 309. I have two blasted 309's that are older and in as good of condition. If I thought I could get that price for them, they'd both be on ebay...maybe they will be by the end of the dayI don't understand the appeal that drove this one to the price level it sold at. I know people like 309s, but that's crazy! I recently bought a Premier from the 80s (sandblast) for less than half that (currently with @RustiePyles CPG for an AB stem, I couldnt resist...).
