So, born butt ugly. I do believe that this is the ugliest, most misbegotten blast I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen some hideous blasts.Once a dog, always a dog
Not buffing abuse I think.

But the case, Jesse! You can't ignore the case! So, born butt ugly. I do believe that this is the ugliest, most misbegotten blast I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen some hideous blasts.
The case is lovely. It deserves better than a pipe whose ugliness would stop a clock. But the case, Jesse! You can't ignore the case!
I don't know - the stamp area looks heavily buffed, so maybe the entire pipe? But I bet it was a dog before it met the buffer for the first time.Once a dog, always a dog

Too true. I do wonder what they were thinking. Here's how I imagine it going:The case is lovely. It deserves better than a pipe whose ugliness would stop a clock.
Have you ever worked in the Animation Industry? This pretty much sums up the production process.Too true. I do wonder what they were thinking. Here's how I imagine it going:
Astute carver: "This huge block has such bad grain"
Dopey carver: "Yeah but it can be a magnum!"
Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly magnum."
Dopey carver: "Yeah but we can sandblast it!"
Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly sandblasted magnum."
Dopey carver: "Yeah but we can put it in a case!"
Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly sandblasted magnum in case."
Dopey carver: *Puts it in the assembly line*
Astute carver: "You know they're going to open the case. No one will buy it once they see the pipe."
Dopey carver:
Buyer:
As much as I'd like a magnum, that wasn't happening. If the buyer is a forum member he can come out now.
I promise I won't laugh, only feel sorry.
I think Sasieni did use them. I had a Sasieni made Bewlay Briar Cut which had an inner tube. An extra long Canadian it was, very old & I’m pretty sure the inner tube was original to the pipe.I don't believe I've ever seen the Retford with the tube before (or even a Sasieni with a Dunhill style tube).

I have not but I'm glad (or maybe frustrated is a better word) to know that Animation isn't exempt from such processes.Have you ever worked in the Animation Industry? This pretty much sums up the production process.

It was not nice and I apologise.Picking between mockery and pity is a bit of a Morton’s fork (and if you’ve ever been forked by Morton you know how painful that can be) but if forced to choose I’ll take the former every time.
It was not nice and I apologise.
You're right; apology withdrawn.Don’t do that. If you apologize I have to apologize and where will it all end? If everyone behaved nicely this forum would implode and we’d all have to spend more time working. None of us want that.
" Never apologise, never explain "You're right; apology withdrawn.
I enjoyed this post. Partly because it made me google Morton's fork, and moreso because it made me think about the difference between 'mockery' and 'pity'.Picking between mockery and pity is a bit of a Morton’s fork (and if you’ve ever been forked by Morton you know how painful that can be) but if forced to choose I’ll take the former every time.
The mold was probably carved from wood, thus leaving a carved impression. This one is very strange in shape, but I love the overall design which looks carved rather than molded, but that can't be the case since the molding lines are very obvious in the middle of the tower and harp.
