The case is lovely. It deserves better than a pipe whose ugliness would stop a clock.
Too true. I do wonder what they were thinking. Here's how I imagine it going:

Astute carver: "This huge block has such bad grain"

Dopey carver: "Yeah but it can be a magnum!"

Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly magnum."

Dopey carver: "Yeah but we can sandblast it!"

Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly sandblasted magnum."

Dopey carver: "Yeah but we can put it in a case!"

Astute carver: "OK now it's an ugly sandblasted magnum in case."

Dopey carver: *Puts it in the assembly line*

Astute carver: "You know they're going to open the case. No one will buy it once they see the pipe."

Dopey carver: 🤔🤷‍♂️🤑

Have you ever worked in the Animation Industry? This pretty much sums up the production process.

Picking between mockery and pity is a bit of a Morton’s fork (and if you’ve ever been forked by Morton you know how painful that can be) but if forced to choose I’ll take the former every time.
I enjoyed this post. Partly because it made me google Morton's fork, and moreso because it made me think about the difference between 'mockery' and 'pity'.

I pity those who mock me.

This one has to be British. I collect Irish-themed pipes and knew there had to be a 'shamrock, tower, harp' clay pipe out there waiting for me. So now I have one to go with my similar-themed mortas and briars. This one is very strange in shape, but I love the overall design which looks carved rather than molded, but that can't be the case since the molding lines are very obvious in the middle of the tower and harp. It also looks like it will be very smokeable.

To most it will simply be an ugly old clay, but isn't really similar to many clays I've seen.

One more. I picked up the H.Perkins out of this group of five skull pipes a British seller auctioned off a couple of weeks ago, but thought I'd link to all five, as they're kind of interesting. Since the H.Perkins doesn't include 'and sons', it's at least pre-1902 (earliest 'and sons' example I have). The stem has a bone tenon but is probably 1930s-1940s. Since taking the bottom picture I've re-bent it to better fit the case.

Immediately one of my favorite pipes.
