I catch myself inhaling from time to time now. It happens more with smoother and nicotine light tobaccos. One of the reasons "Light" cigs don't work is the body will automatically adjust for a deeper draw and inhale to get the same amount of tobacco. I have to stay mindful when I smoke and use stronger blends, as well as retrohale quickly to get the Nic beast satisfied. Smoking brown ropes helps a lot. I haven't smoked cigarettes in months and my lungs are much better for it. My nose on the other hand...

Now you tell me all confused .(Anyone know I was gone by the way ?) The way I smoke, the usual filling of the chamber, lighting up, sticking the stem in my mouth, then fall into a pleasant Durham of lightly breathing the smoking in and out--is this the inhaling you were speaking of?

Cigarette style inhaling. Don't feel bad, I can be gone for a few weeks at a time and no one notices.

For me inhaling just isn't worth it. Will it happen inadvertently? sure it will. However, the taste and scent of the tobacco doesn't get any better at all if you inhale, so why bother? At the same time it ultimately comes up to your preference, that's what this whole hobby is about. Do what you want and never apologize for you.

Do what you feel like doing. Just be aware of the consequences. Smoking isn't a healthy habit in any case.
If you smoke indoors, you're inhaling anyway because you're sitting in a cloud of smoke while breathing. If you're smoking indoors and additionally inhaling the smoke into your lungs, you're further damaging your lungs.
I smoke for the pleasure of the flavors, despite the health risks. I also only smoke outdoors to minimize the amount inhaled and to avoid leaving my home stinking of stale tobacco. But that's not going to protect me from the possibility of developing mouth cancer.
If you're asking if inhaling pipe smoke is a bad idea, the answer is yes, of course it is.
