Hi everyone, just joined group and recently acquired an estate pipe and looking to find out about it. I see Thompson Cigar and about their history. But my pipe is a Thompson, in script (American). But with brass/Gold filigree on stem and rim of bowl.

Thompson American is the only thing stamped on the pipe, nothing else?

I found some info…

Then there seems to be a Norm Thompson in the USA and England…

Ya, it's Thompson ,but in script not printed, so found it to be made or sold in U.S. I think . I just can't find anything showing a similar pipe made by Thompson.

I think you just want to argue with us. Norm Thompson (the only known U.S. carver named Thompson that I could find) dies in 1968 from issues related to his WWI service. Possibly the pipes were actually carved by Charatan.

Norm Thompson was a outdoor catalog. The pipes are stamped "Norm Thompson" Not a carver, kind of like wally frank. Imported pipes with their name stamped on them. Pretty sure these are from Thompson Cigar.

I have no knowledge on the name Thompson when it comes to pipes, but I think snagstangl is correct. I have a Thompson African meerschaum pipe. I was never able to find out any information on it, but I'm guessing it was sold through Thompson Cigar and it was stamped with their name on it.

Lots of pipe makers supplied pipe shops, department stores, catalog sales companies with pipes back in the day. Economies of scale.

And in many cases it’s difficult to say who may of produced it.
