This is just a post to say that i have really been enjoying my cobs lately. So much that my briars and meers are mostly sitting to the side. My "nicest" briar pipes are reserved for my english / lat blends but beyond that i am loving everything in a cob these days.

I've taken to putting a Savinelli balsa filter into my MM cobs. It takes away the gargle and barely affects the taste. That said even my filterless cobs are getting much more use these days as well. They smoke relatively cool, they absorb the clench of my alligator like jaw and i don't have to worry much about them.
My go to tobaccos in the cob these days have been: Trout Stream, Trout + Larry's Blend, Anniversary Kake, Peterson's Luxury blend, Frog Morton's Cellar, and 1Q.
Anyone else go into these cycles or waves of cob enjoyment?

I have two cobs. A pony and a legend, both straight. I really like how small the pony is, it' great for when you want a short smoke. When I first tried a cob I was surprised how good they smoke. I usually suggest them to new smokers as a way to get cheap, good smokers and to start up a rotation. I'd like to get a freehand and I'm eagerly awaiting the evival of the bulldog cob

Corncob was my first pipe that I bought, I still have that one and used it sometimes. The plastic stem is a little chewed, i'm ordering another stem and a Legend right away actually.

Nothing beats a good cob for a beater/work pipe. I never worry about dinging, burning out or breaking one and that takes some pressure off so I can have a more relaxed smoke.

Well said Sousie, nothing is more relaxing than a smoke from a cob, especially if you run the risk of damaging the pipe.

I too have some restricted airways in some of my cobs from the clench.

I have been looking to acquire a couple forever stems but I think that might alter the perception of my cob relaxation.
I'm also wanting a freehand and would love to see a bulldog come back.

Coincidentally I received an order from MM and have been at work breaking in the woody taste. After using some pipe mud after a dremel I've got them where I want them and can now begin to enjoy them. I like the models with a hardwood plug in the bottom. I have six cobs now and they are great for fishing trips where I'll be walking around the boat. If I drop one it is no huge loss.

I love my cobs. I have several Great Danes, Patriots and Country Gents for my work rotation. For long smokes at home I usually reach for my Generals or Freehands.

I love my cobs more and more with each smoke. They are always a relaxing and cool smoke. I recently received a grab bag order of them from MM and have McArthur, spool, patriot and others in rotation. They make me more reluctant to take a chance and pay a big price on a new briar when I get so much enjoyment from them. There is nothing better than grilling outside and smoking my cob while watching the chickens graze and the birds sing! (No, I don't live on a farm either)

Just ordered a couple of mini cobs to enjoy some quick smokes out of as it's cold as hell up here at this time of year!

I just saw that Smokable Seconds offer. I've got a fishing trip/guys weekend scheduled for this summer and I may buy a bag so the boys all have their own pipe for the weekend!

I love my cobs I have 5 and they are my fishing / yardwork / knocking around pipes. I also find myself reaching for them at other times when I'm just in a cob mood. Everything smokes well in them but an old codger blend like P.A. just seems to sing in a cob for me.

thanks for the tip Roth, i have indeed thought about doing that. I just need to go grab some balsa.

I have been washing them and letting them dry and it seems to prolong the life quite a bit.
i also second the idea of the 10 pipe grab bag from MM.

That's how i got most of my cobs. I have a decent variety and a few of those are in my steady rotation now.

I just want a decent freehand cob and then i should be set for a while.
I've seen some old "corn cob society" signature images in this forum. Maybe i'll design a new image and resurrect that club since so many people have popped into this thread.

I've also recently talked to the people at MM about them making a T-shirt and they say they are releasing some soon. That old school logo is sweet!

Was thinking about a post, an ode to my cobs when I came across this post.

I went for the smokeable seconds from MM and got a load of legends a Great Dane Spool and pony express. At first I thought what am I going to do with all of these legends? I smoked one and instantly fell in love with it. The second had a crack along the stem that didn't look like it went through, but I super glued it anyway. These two pipes have been my mainstays for work and outside. They look beaten to hell but smoke so damn well. I am keeping the rest of my legends and will use them as the ones in my rotation wear out. I think I will have them for quite a while because my two originals seem to be indestructible.

I have smoked the Dane a couple of times and may use it for aros and use the Pony for SG brown twist as I don't think I can smoke a very large bowl of that. The small bowl on the Pony is great for a quick smoke.
