I prefer a Chez tool over a pipe nail. With the nice round opening I can hook it on the carabiner with my keys so I'll always have it. However, I usually prefer the nail when I'm at home.

My dad liked the Studebaker Land Cruiser and had a green 49, a baby blue 52, and a maroon 54. They started going to hell after that.
Now to pipe nails, I keep a Czech pipe tool on my desk, a Brebbia tool somewhere (I find it less effective than the Czech or the nail,) and about 20 or so pipe nails around the house in various locations so I will always have one within reach. SWMBO tries to be helpful and periodically gathers them and deposits them in a single location so that I may have my pick of whichever one I want. She can't discern one from the other, but assumes I can. I prefer the pipe nail above the other two as I find it more practical in most instances. I also keep one inverted in my pipe cleaner pouch which I almost always keep in my shirt pocket.
BTW, I'm surprised that I haven't seen the pouch mentioned too often on this forum. I think most of you know what I'm referring to. The online sellers will often toss one in if you ask for it, or charge you a buck or so. They hold about a dozen pipe cleaners (plus a pipe nail which you insert with the flat end up.). This way I've always got a nail and a cleaner close at hand as I venture forth to face the rigors of the day. At the end of the day, replace the pipe cleaners you've used. They're made of cheap plastic, and will eventually wear out, and when that happens, you're out a buck at most to replace it. They also make fancy leather one for about $10, which I use for dress occasions. Don't underestimate the value of this little item--cheap, and it keeps pipe cleaners and nail readily accessible.

What bothers me is that some some really astute, entertaining guys who responded seem to have folded their collective tents and vaporized in the last few months.
Man, I really miss Kashmir.
Me, too. He's the reason SOTE is now a near-daily smoke for me, and his posts were all worth reading.
Speaking of SOTE, I love it and will happily put up with whatever C&D wish to do with their blends as long as they keep making that one.

Guys, gals, Kashmir was one of my favorite Forum members too. One of the last posts I saw from him gave a

sort of clue as to his situation. From earlier posts, it was clear Kashmir was on a faculty and was teaching,

college it seemed to me. A photo posted of his study looked very orderly and scholarly. (You won't be seeing

any photos of my desk!) Apparently his contract ran out, and he had taken an interim job driving a forklift

at Costco. So his time and energy may be limited. At the time, I gave him a pep talk, because Costco does

have some interesting retailing concepts and seems like an enlightened organization. But driving a forklift

has got to be a hard job. I'm hoping Kashmir will be back when his life settles out somewhat.

phil57, I see the error of my ways. What is life without a $110 Dunhill pipe nail? I'll start saving, right away.

I think my wife bought me one, or talked about buying me one of these...I just can't remember!
If she did get it, its gone somewhere into the netherworld. And of course I can't tell her or ask her and incur her wrath (I can't buy you anything good!), or something like that.
That's the thing about the pipe nail. At about 85 cents, who cares what happens to it?
