Things have been fairly hectic of late, and my here presence has been scarce. I've missed popping in on as many conversations to which I can possibly contribute.
Well, I had what can only be defined as a thoroughly crap-tastic night. I will spare most of the details. Suffice to say, it sucks when family you've done so much for do their very best to treat you like crap.
I'm sorry. I needed to vent a little; it's not something I normally do, but this hurt... a lot. And besides my wife, I could think of nowhere else to turn but here. I'm grateful for my friends here. Thank you all.
I really mean that, guys (and gals).

Well hang in there bud, light up a pipe, and have a drink. Family sucks, I have my fair share of shitty relatives, most of the time you just have to grin and bare it, it makes you the better person.

Yeah, I understand. Smoke a nice big bowl of something cool, and soak in some of the night air. This too shall pass.

My dad was fond of saying that "nobody screws you like family can!" Hang in there bud. It gets better!

I have been blessed with a great family, but my wife's family gives her the fits. I always ask her why she goes back for more. Ask yourself, would you associate with those people if they weren't your family? Simply sharing genetic makeup with someone doesn't obligate you to have a relationship with them. Easier said than done for sure, but some things must be done, if it's that bad.
Best wishes to you.

+1 brother, preach on! My mom and dad, God rest them, were more mom and dad to my wife (we are highschool sweethearts)than her mom and stepdad could ever be (she lost her dad when she was 9 to cancer). Like your wife, she used to keep diving back into the mess (her sister is a real winner too 8O )but she finally wised up. She hasn't spoken to the 3 of them in going on 2 or 3 years. Sad yes, but my wife is "healthier" and in better spirits for it. Sometimes ya gotta dust your sandals off and move on...

Cajunguy, I don't know what the beef is, but I can assure you that your presence here is a bright spot, and we esteem your opinions and continued friendship.

Stay positive and focused on the things that make you a good person. Taking the high road can be lonely at times but at the end of the day its your face in the mirror. Bad times pass and friends will always be there to help you through the rough spots. Be well and be happy.

Thank you all very much. After I posted last night, I crashed for the evening. I needed to sleep. Everyone's responses were a wonderful way to greet the new day. Things will get better. I have my wife and stepkids and friends. That is fine with me. It's just tough going at the moment.
Thank you all. It really did help.

Cajunguy: hang in there... Been going through a rough spot myself here. And yesterday someone gave me this quote
Do not argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience

~ Mark Twain
Not only a pipe smoker, but very wise words I have kept in front of me since then. Hope it gets better for you.

Hang in there Cajundude! Vent anytime. Let us know if we can do anything for ya man.
Here's a laugh for you. About 3 years ago during the holidays, we had a huge family blow-up involving my sister (dramatic princess type) and my stepmom (micromanaging passive-aggressive type). Well, it ended up being ridiculous as you can imagine, yelling, slamming doors, the whole bit. Everyone was involved and it almost ruined the holidays. But we went on, walking on egg shells the rest of the week. For Christmas service, all of us went to church and in the middle of the sermon, the pastor said something corny to the effect of, "when you go to heaven, you're going to see all your relatives and spend eternity with them". Suddenly, the entire section of our family, all 15 of us, me included, burst out laughing like we were at a comedy club. It was very inappropriate, but we couldn't help it. The pastor was shocked at the response and the entire church looked over at us like we were rude, but the thought of spending "eternity with your relatives" was too freakin' hilarious to think of at that point!
Anyhow man - hang in there. Without knowing the details, I'm sure things will work themselves out.

I think anyone that goes to church and DOESN'T laugh at things like that have the personality of a grapefruit.
My pastor would crack a joke or make a face after those words left his mouth. He beats you to the punch line everytime which is great. If you take laughter out of churches you just get a bunch of uptight grumpy people that noone wants to talk to.
Anywaz, Good luck with your family Cajunguy! Go to a park, hit the gym, whatever takes your mind off of the nonsense they are putting you through. After all... it's the weekend!

Cajunguy sorry to hear whats happening with your family, we've all been there. I have a brother I haven't spoken to in 8 years and we have a family dinner every Sunday! The only thing I can think of your family treating you like that is cause they'll never be as good as you and they don't want you to advanced in life anymore. When they bitch to you just nod give a small grin and say "ok". Go outside light your favorite tobacco and listen to some music on your mp3 and block out the family until they leave or you're ready to go home.
Punching bag is always good too. Hit it for 3mins, take 1 min break then go again!

I was in need of some good cheer earlier this week, so I drank a lot of bourbon. It didn't turn out well.
This too shall pass is inevitably so ... so find a pleasant distraction no matter how many tries it takes.
