To me, Semois is more like smoking a cigar than any of the cigar blends, in that it has that thick "sticky" smoke, barnyard aroma, and the nicotine just floods. Plus, a brick of it lasts for a very long time. I am on my third brick, and I love this stuff. But, I have to smoke it away from the family. They aren't too crazy about it, nor cigars for that matter.
I smoke cigars, and did so long before pipes. All I can say is that if you believe that Semois tastes like a cigar, then I think my American friends should get access to some better cigars.

Well, I didn't say that it tasted like a fine hand-rolled Nicaraguan or Cuban, but it does have a cigar flavor to me, but mostly the way the smoke works, sticky, strong. Even the room note on the following day smells as if cigars had been smoked in the room.
I wish I could afford to only ever smoke GTO's or one of the other $12+ sticks. But, I have found that sometimes I can find a diamond in the rough among the cheap sticks. The fun is in the looking (or smoking).

Ha! I go between self-congratulations on my nicotine tolerance and wondering if I have any judgement at all, taste or smell. I think I ring off in the distance on the bell curve. I hate to recommend anything for fear of the repercussions for others.

I'm totally intrigued by Burley now. I was considering a sample ounce of Premium Burley from Boswells. Is that a good representation for a first try?

It might be just selective perception, but recently Semois seems to come up a lot. I was reading about Tabac Manil - Bouchons de Semois yesterday. Has anyone tried it?

Not every game is a big game.

Neither is every bowl a great smoke.

Only a few times has a bowl really really hit the spot for me.

Once it was a bowl of Wessex Burly Slice...too bad I haven't been able to replicate that experience.
I just placed an order with smoking pipes today.

I added four ounces each of Pegasus and Morley's Best to the order.

I look forward to trying these quality burly blends.

JKP, for example, tastes much more smooth to my palate with 3+ years of age on it than it does smooth.

Couldn't agree more strongly. This stuff should not be available for sale fresh. Quite frankly, I've thought the same nearly every time I've opened a Pease blend that wasn't lat-centric. I would really love to see him blend with McC's stash.

I do love the Semois smell reminds me of French bistros/coffee shops back the when I was there last time, aand the taste itself is great, nevertheless, while how great that Semois is I find it somewhat harsh and bitey,
