It used to bother me and it was one of the issues that stopped me from buying Petes for quite a while.

Then I had a thought "your friends still like you in spite of your faults"

I love the look of Petes. And if they won't pass a cleaner, I'm not letting that stop me from buying one, if I like other things about it.
If a pipe can't pass a cleaner to the draught hole, for me to keep it in my regular rotation then it must be a fine smoker.

PAD is a serious disorder.
When I built my rotation, I didn't recognise that I had more than enough pipes until I had over 50 just sitting in boxes. The close to 40 in my rotation were sufficient. [That number allows a good range of bowl shapes and sizes]

But that's me. I'm a pipe smoker not a pipe collector. puffy
Not that there's anything wrong with collecting. I can think of worse hobbies. :)

If you put a slight bend in the end of a pipe cleaner, say the last 1/4 inch, and twist it after hitting resistance, you can often get a cleaner to the bowl of a Pete. I do this regularly with my XL90's, a favorite shape.

Yep, works with some, but not a lot of Pete bents because of the drilling issues.

Putting a slight bend at the end of a cleaner is the only way a cleaner going to get into the P-lip.

Ah, I forgot about P-lips. I prefer fishtails (though I'm in the minority there). I remember the P-lip holes were small.

I've also heard of people making passage easier with a small riffler file, but I've never tried that. Cheers!

I'm with you on the fishtails.

I do wish that Peterson would offer fishtail stems as an option on all their lines. At the moment you can get fishtail stems with only a very small number of their lines. I'd looked for a fishtail stemmed SH Hudson and Squire but gave up after 18 months of searching.

That's why I jumped at the SH Christmas pipes this year, I've been on a bulldog kick and have always preferred sandblasted pipes. But that all combined with finally seeing a SH with a fishtail lead me to pick up two.

Now thanks to this post I took another look at smoking pipes and found the Ragaire Pete's. I've always been a sucker for an army mount Pete so I found another bulldog that I needed. Generally I don't like anything but a black stem but I think I can make an exception for how unique these Ragaire pipes are.

I had been doing pretty good with PAD so far this year but now this will be my 4th new Pete in the last couple of months. The first three have all been great smokers so hopefully this next one is as well.

Love the fishtails too. P-lip just doesn't seem to feel right to me. I will give the bend and twist of a pipe cleaner a try. It isn't the end all and be all for me if I can't make it happen. I like the Pete shapes and they all smoke great.
