After trying the MM MacArthur, I saw that the smaller General has a wider bowl by 1/8" and is still 2.25" deep.

As far as I can tell there aren't many pipes with a bigger chamber than this, at least not regularly available.

Yes the regular MacArthur has a 3" deep bowl, but it starts at .75" wide and tapers to .5" wide.

The Freehand Cob starts at .875" wide, but is listed as a "conical" bowl instead of "cylindrical", so you're not getting as much extra volume as it may seem at a glance.

I'm particularly attracted to the "General" model because my Nording Abstract is roughly the same width and I love how it smokes, but the General is half an inch deeper.

That and getting a new Cob is only a $10 experiment so you're way better off trying that just to see how a new bowl size/shape is going to play out compared to jumping headlong into a Briar.

(I just about bought a Nording Oversize but this is $190 cheaper, and has more features I want.)

Here is what might be termed "the giant industrial-sized bowl." Will it do?

As Darwin mentioned, the Savinelli Hercules is a great bargain for a large pipe.

Also bear in mind, a medium sized pipe, what would probably be classified as a Dunhill Group 4, packed

with flake will probably burn as long as a great big bowl with loose tobacco. The tobacco plays a role.

I think cylindrical bowls burn a little longer than conical, everything else being equal, or so it seems to me.
