Ok dumb question: you are turning the flame back up after it’s filled?

That's what I was wondering.

When my Corona doesn't take a flame I will put a flame up to where it ignites. If it does ignite then I am sure it is the setting of the flint or the flint needs to be replaced.

If the setting is left on high, the gas will escape with force, and not take a light.

Have you tried using a different fuel ?
I don't think Xikar is what it's cracked up to be.
Colibri or Newport are the only butanes that I would put in my old boy.
I haven't cleaned it since I started using them months ago, there's nothing there's to clean. I can only see shining chrome, even under a magnifying glass.

I had an Old Boy that, after a couple of years, would not ignite. The flint would spark and the gas would light up if lit up with another lighter that worked. I never found a fix (different flints, butane, cleaning, purging, etc.) and eventually lost it. My takeaway is don't spend more than $20 on a lighter.

I moved away from xikar fuel. Duponts did not like it.

All high end lighters do require some preventive maintenance/cleaning from time to time.

I've never had any issues with fuel either. As long as it's refined butane meant for quality lighters it should be OK. The only issue I've run across is certain lighters fuel ports and fuel nozzles don't mate quite correctly, and gas sprays everywhere.
