I'm in a really crappy mood due to being screwed over on a late entrant in a new house bid.(won't give details as it's embarrassing and probably my fault anyway)

Anyway if anything I post on anyone's threads seems overly sarcastic or snarky, my apologies. I'm gonna start drinking now which will only make the situation worse. 🤨
It’s probably full of asbestos and radon anyway.

Let me be clear. I'm not a man of means. I've never owned my own home, ever. I'm done with decades of renting with zero to show for it. This one was within my means and available. Then the bloated fat cat from a few doors down decided he needs to make a few more dollars per month with a rental property steps in. Am I bitter? Hell yeah. Am I tired of "this just means there's something better for you." Hell effin' yeah.

Like I said, I don't blame the seller. They gotta do what they gotta do. The shitbag doing the buying has all of my scorn.

Well. Some years back, I and my siblings were selling the parental nest and we had several bidders. We'd kind of settled on a young couple looking to start a family who offered fair price, when a late middle-aged couple banged in a substantially higher bid, wanting to add the property to their rental portfolio. They thought they were bulletproof.

We had a family council of war; the unanimous decision was to turn down the higher bid and offer to the young couple. We've never regretted doing that and have ever been at peace with our decision.

We did the same.

I was the receiver of a similar-ish situation back in the mid-00s when housing was also in a wild time. We offered 10K under listing because that was our max and we needed the 10K buffer to cover closing costs. The people accepted and a bit later someone came in offering full price, cash. Those selling the house turned them down and stuck to us. We are still in that house today.

Just a few months prior to that we had a very similar situation on a house and the people took the higher cash offer and gave us our good faith deposit back.

Looking back on it all, we ended up in the right house without a doubt.

This reminded me of when my mother, who is the oldest of all her siblings, gathered to divide up my grandfather's inheritance. They sat around a round table, like in the movie about King Arthur, at their late father's farmhouse, that is, my grandfather's. One brother said to my mother angrily, “Hey, what do you want that piece of land for? Are you going to plant something?” My mother replied, “Yes, I'll go there on weekends to plant shit when I feel like shitting. Is that enough for you?”
