I'm a New Member and New Pipe Smoker - HELP!

First and foremost,welcome to a time honored pastime of enjoyment. Once you get the hang of it, the enjoyment and de-stressing of your life will be welcomed.
Next, I would recommend having at least 2-3 pipes, as after every smoke you will want the pipe to rest, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. No matter what you paid for the pipe, you do not want it to crack on you. The type or how much you spend is up to you. I have a $30 pipe that that is one of my best smokers. There are many brands of pipes ranging from $10 up to ???? whatever you are willing to pay. You can also get some good estate pipes at great prices. I usually clean my pipe not long after smoking it. I do not use a filter (personal choice) so I cant help you there.
Just remember to smoke slowly and enjoy.

when you guys say a $30 pipe is a great smoker, or the MM's are a great smoker...what does that mean exactly? (sorry for the rookie questions!!)
looks like i should definitely get myself a MM...maybe the country gentelman! (it looks cool! haha)

A great smoker is usually one that the smoke is a little cooler(whole range of definitions but it boils down to less tongue bite), shows of the subtle flavors of a tobacco blend, feels good to the smoker, really theirs a whole range of what makes a great smoker ultimately it boils down to, does the pipe give you what you consider a bad,okay,good or great smoke. what are you looking for out of it. cobs tend to smoke cool because alot of air mixes in with the smoke through the porous cob material(or some such sci-fi sounds bs) meerschaum can be said to smoke cool for similar reasons though with a much higher price tag. It basically comes down to play around, try a bunch of pipes and baccy out, and once you find that combo of pipe/baccy you think is just absolutely the be all end all, tell another smoker, they'll tell you your wrong, and that you should try bacci x out of pipe y, you'll try it it'll be awesome too, and then the cycle begins all over again

i am sure it has most likely been said already but get a few MM Cobs toss the filters and smoke a bunch til u find what suits ya.
