I've had the same Czech tool on my keychain since the day I bought my first pipe. I've lost a few of those 8deco tampers over the years though, but I've managed to hold on to a purple one for several years now. *knock wood*

I'm a creature of habit - I sit in the same spot for a smoke 99% of times.

Ashtray, Czech tool always in place - unless my wife has decided on a spring clean or move the furniture

Being clumsy to a fault, I don't smoke on the move or tending to other tasks, unless it is to get a mug of tea or a fill-up .
So little chance of me leaving something in an unknown location 😁

I regularly find old tampers in a tool kit I haven't used for a while or in the car when I clean it.

I lose tampers regularly on the golf course. The funny thing is, golfers find them and return them to me! One was returned to me more than a season after I lost it, a Rattray's slim that is my go to desk tamper. I only lost one in the last ten years permanently, Just another thing I love about my job.

Hard to say whether I’ve ever actually “lost” one because I’ve got them laying around everywhere, in the many cars, tool boxes, coat/vest pockets, drawers, etc., and I’m always “finding” one somewhere.

The better question is how long a holiday I could have taken if I hadn’t bought so many over the years of pipe smoking? 🤷🏼‍♂️🙄
