I like Bayou Night, though I didn't at first. Peterson Irish Flake and 3-P are extra good if you smoke burley, as is Amphora Burley. I'm really enjoying a tin of GLP Barbary Coast, with a cubed burley base, Virginia, Perique, and a subtle brandy flavoring. Nightcap is an old standard most like.

Don't bury yourself in blends. Really take your time. Most blends take some gradual learning to fully enjoy. If you continue to smoke a pipe, you will try many blends over time.

From your list I'd go with Chelsea Morning and Super Balkan. However, don't let the name fool you. Super Balkan is not a heavy blend imo. It doesn't get much attention but it is certainly worth taking for a spin. I'd put it on the lighter side of medium. Its nice when you want a lighter lat blend. If you like lat applied with a really light hand, try "scottish" type blends like Rattray's Jock's Mixture. Just get a little of each and try em all. Happy smokes...

honestly in my opinion you worry to much about how good your tobacco is. Every single one of those is a quality product. All the leaf is grown with love and blended with love (might be a love of money but love is in there) and each and every one of those you listed is some pipe smokers favorite. And with English type blends remind me of cigars. Every cigar is a pretty cigarish yet they're all wildly different if you're into them. And asking what to cellar here is like asking a cigar group what brand to buy. You'll get a lot of good answers. I guess my point I am getting to is instead of buying the right blends it's better to appreciate what you have. And I don't think you can go wrong with anything on your list.
I am not worrying about it, rather I am enjoying my new hobby and this forum which is intended for people to learn and ask questions. I am enjoying my journey and communication with fellow pipes. Part of it is deciding which blends I want to try with my limited funds. I do not own those blends listed above and actually only have 1 blend with both Latakia and Perique so maybe you misunderstood. I do understand your point about English blends are all similar but it does not mean I should not ask for others opinion. For example both Nightcap and Quiet Nights have virtually identical reviews. I don’t know if I will like either but per my inquiry I am seeing more Quiet Nights and hey it’s $2 less as well. I may not like it, but if I do it’s not because Jimlnks said it is 4 stars with tart, twang, woody, earthy goodness. But because kcghosts, Jimmy_Jack, or augiebd recommended it. If I don’t like it fine it’s ok, but with a $25 budget I am going to respect fellow members experience and opinions.

Being I newby myself, I can’t usually offer much advice. I do enjoy reading the responses to the questions that you post though. I like your methodical approach. This whole pipe smoking thing is a huge, vast new world. Gets a tad overwhelming if you let it! Keep up with your research. I’m learning from your journey!

I'm sure you didn't mean it the way it reads, lol, but Jim's a fellow member as well. :)

I also very much enjoy reading what other members' experiences are, just haven't figured out which ones are renting my taste buds!

So I get to keep experimenting!

Oh did not mean it to sound mean. Maybe I did not understand what “ you worry to much about how good your tobacco is “ means?

Jim (anotherbob) my apologies if I sounded defensive. No hard feelings I hope.

I was trying to explain part of it is the fun of blogging. The other is I do think it’s good idea to ask experienced smokers their opinions. I get there is no right or wrong and to each is own, but I enjoy the research and hunt and fellowship. I feel like I am blindly choosing from a table with 50 cakes and pies and I probably can only try a few. So I am asking everyone else their opinions who have already partook.

This probably isn’t super helpful but I’ve only had Plum Pudding and Quiet Nights and I prefer Quiet Nights.
This is very helpful because Pudding is expensive and it makes me feel like Quiet is a solid choice for a beginner and budget. Thanks

Of course. And the amazing thing about pipes is we have a lot of tobacco to try and dig through and an amazing amount of variations. Like not just different styles but in those particular styles we are spoiled with options. I still stand by the opinion of not to over think it. They're all good and which one is going to be the best for you is totally up in the air. I'd say either buy bulk considering the budget or put the names of each blend on a scrap of a paper and have your wife or someone in your circle of friends and family pull one out of a hat. Or you could go with favorite tin art.
Of course no problem with you asking questions but if you do that you'll get answers :) and my answer is from that list just go for it.

Thanks. I will go slow smoking them but I am wanting to try to choose a preferred favorite within each category. I have my daily codger burley (Match Edgeworth RR), a favorite Virginia (NM400), now have a couple English (EMP/John Bull). Choosing a VaPer and a Lat/Per over the next month and maybe a Kentucky. The remainder of my tobacco will be cellared and aged or I will share with some other newbies to sample. My thought is I dont want to smoke one tobacco blend daily for weeks, but have some variety amongst each category. This may be wrong think but just my approach. The Barbary Coast sounds nice.

If you are limiting yourself to that list, I gravitate toward Quiet Nights (for a tinned blend) and Super Balkan (for bulk). But to add another excellent blend, one that is super balanced (but not wimpy) and also a ribbon, give GLP Samarra a try.

plum pudding is a new favorite of mine. So complex, but can be easy too. Quiet nights i remember being a lat bomb, buts its been 5years since i had any. I have 3 or 4 tins cellared tho. It was really good, but don't recall the perique.
