Yeah, well, not something I'd dwell on!

But people have been arguing, debating, opining on this for decades… ?
Bloom (or plume, if you must) isn't an indicator of age, though rarely is it seen in fresh. tobacco.

Back about 20 years or more there was an article discussing this in Cigar Aficionado. The consensus was that the more natural oils in the tobacco act as a carrier to precipitate the minerals to the surface over a period of time. This either happens, or it doesn’t. Cigar leaf is processed quite differently than pipe tobacco. GH&Co tobaccos seem to exhibit this more readily in shorter time span.

What does it mean?

Absolutely nothing, other than some process is taking place. Whether it happens in a matter of months or years.

To me it usually indicates that the tobacco is aging well. As for cigars, I have had some that have gotten plume. It’s usually Nicaraguan cigars that have sat for 5-6 years or more.
