Identification help please :)

Hello there i am new to the forums
I dont know if this is in the right thread apologies if not

Found this in my sadly passed away fathers loft when cleaning out his stuff, could anyone help with identification? it smokes still, although smells horrific!

it has a small marking on it but is too worn to tell what it is, looks south american maybe? it is about the length of my elbow to hand.

any help is greatly appreaciated, i think its a rather interesting piece

I would think more likely middle eastern. Small bowl? If so, even more likely middle or far east.
