I have a couple of Tao's pipes that I got for a few hundred bucks each on ebay. The one in my rotation at present is a great pipe and has a wonderful hand feel. Still, at that price I would certainly pass. To each his own, however. I dislike Porsche 911s but people pay gobs of money for them. Taste is individual, as are budgets.

It's easier to gauge a pipes "value" by looking at the secondary market for a given carver. His pipes seem to go for between $600-$1200. The larger the disparage between new and used... the more "overpriced" the pipes are when new.
