I do think the pipe can make a difference. I have noticed with my Peterson that I can lay it down and do something only to return in 30 seconds or so and find that the tobacco is still lit. No other pipe does this on a consistant basis. Since I am loading them all the same, it must be the pipe.

Like most things, muscle memory is a key for any skill. Over times our brains and muscles work together somehow to accomplish the task.

That said, the wonderful members here I give credit for continuing to offer good suggestions and advice. :)

I don't give a damn about out any breathing method apart from the one I use, which works perfectly.
Sounds like you've been watching Mutton Chop Piper videos, avoid them like the plague.

Yes! How did you know I was watching Mutton Chop Piper videos on the breath method! LOL. How can you say anything bad about those videos? He seems like a knowledgeable smoker and kind man. I, for one, am grateful for his introductory YouTube videos on pipe smoking. However, being a newbie I lack the proper knowledge and experience to be a critique of his methods and techniques. I would like to hear further from you on this matter.

Nope he doesn't. Even with "his" breath smoking you'd catch the pipe on fire. My smoking's changed so much over the past thirty years that I don't even know what to call it anymore.?‍♂️
What do you mean by "Even with "his" breath smoking you'd catch the pipe on fire." ?

While I draw lightly after 2-3 breaths the smoke is of low density and thus the flavor rush is low. So I end up taking 2-3 quick, strong , short draws to really get the pipe going the next turn. I push all that smoke out my nose to taste that full flavor profile. But as I start the breath method again the smoke becomes less and less till the pipe goes out.

Maybe I should name my own style of pipe smoking the 'fast and furious method'. Guaranteed to turn your briar foul and tongue into leather LOL. But at least I get that full mouth full of smoke (the price: countless relights). It seems to me that smoking a pipe properly you should not ever have that much smoke density, save for the initial lights.

How could I say anything good about those videos.
At the risk of repetition - he doesn't have a clue.
The sooner you forget everything he says, the sooner you'll learn to enjoy your pipe,

Just smoke it and teach yourself. It only took me 4 years !
Judging from what I sometimes read on this forum, that's pretty good going.

With breath smoking, you shouldn't be blowing smoke back through the pipe with every draw. That's like a bellows and will heat up a pipe and the smoke. Even in the videos I've done for the forum the only time I produce much visible smoke is when I'm talking.
