@BingBong Ive found piezo lighters to be a pain unless they are really good ones. Overall, I prefer a flint. The dont fail. If going cheap definitely a flint.

My Jifeng from ali express sells at 10 euros. Its a old boy/Dunhill copy. A number of members have used them with good luck for bang around lighters. As long as it has fuel and a flint it lights every strike.

Ive taken to ordering quite a few things from them since half the stuff sold on amazon is from ali baba and sold at double the price. I dont know about the UK but in the EU they charge VAT at purchase so there is no assessment charge for imports. Some stuff is pretty good quality, some of it is junk.

At my shop I start each pipe with two matches, one after the other. I then switch to a Kiribi. I’ve found that S T Dupont works best in this lighter. No reason for the matches other than I like the ritual.
At home I smoke less and just use an Old Boy which works like butter.

After a bit of time one develops a cadence and rhythm with matches. I’ve used a zippo too, I find if you’re smoking a lot it’s easier and less mess. But the taste is not good if you don’t wait to let fluid burn off.

When I switched to wooden matches, I banished tongue bite.
It did take me a while to master the match, most of my smoking is outdoors. But, now I can light a pipe with a wooden match on a breezy day without issue.
Yeah this is why I really appreciate matches. They don’t burn as hot as lighters do. It’s actually quite convenient when the bowl is mostly turned to ash and you want to light whatever little is left of your tobacco- you can stick the match down the bowl 😂

Well, this "old boy" loves his old boy lighter. I like matches too, but never developed a love for zippo's and the evaporating fluid.
I have to do some research on this "hemp stick." I have never used them.

Try the Rattray's Bel Pipe Lighter, it is like the old boy but bigger wheel that is not as annoying as the Oldboy. Also does not need to be constantly fiddled with arcane flint screw spring combo. It has an automatic spring that locks open so you can drop the flit inside the changer and close it that is it, simple flick yes with you thumb but much bigger surface and light all the time. They go for about 100 bucks at to bacco pipes .com.
