I was sitting on a bench in our town square yesterday smoking a bowl of SL while SWMBO was partaking of some retail therapy when a lady with her young son sat beside me.She said she liked the smell of my pipe, her father-in-law passed away a few months back and he was a pipe smoker. We chatted for a while then they got up to go,as they went I hesrd the young fellow say "he is a nice old man and he smells just like grandpa did.Now that was some compliment.

Smell is one of the strongest triggers for memory. The smell of Thanksgiving dinner can flood your mind with memories of days and family past long. The aroma of a pipe is like that. Certain blends make me think of my dad. He is still doing well, but can no longer smoke a pipe due to his asthma.

That's great! Smell is the first sense we can remember. That's why so many people find the scent of baby powder comforting.

That kid will always associate that smell with his grandfather. He may even be a future pipe smoker.

I hope my grandkids get to smell pipe tobacco after I am gone. I would like that they remembered me from it.

That is definitely a compliment if you are smoking a pipe. Otherwise, not so much.
The power of an odor to trigger memories and emotions is remarkably strong. In fact, signals from our olfactory region (in our nasal cavity) travel directly through the limbic system, which is the part of our brain responsible for memory and emotions. For this reason it appears, smells can prompt amazingly vivid memories and trigger extreme emotional responses from people ...

the sweet, hot, little 20 something nurse who has taken over my chemo shots asked me if i smoked a pipe, (it was in my shirt pocket, stem out). told her sure, why.
she said, "i thought so, you smell just like my granpa."
was smoking bulls eye at the time.... and my ego took a HARD hit.
