The only time I remember playing in the street was during the summer after dinner, playing “kick the can” until it got too dark to play any more. We had a sandlot where we played baseball and our back yards for badminton or sleeping out over nite in our tents. Great times, fondly missed.

Kick the can was a popular pick-up game during difficult economic times. The origin is unknown, but during the Great Depression in the 1930s the game was a popular pastime because it did not require a playing field, nor any designated equipment other than a discarded can or other kickable object

The other day I took a nap, and woke up with bed head... I was supposed to go see a children's Christmas choir singing in a church.

I only had about 15 minutes to get ready and leave. So as a last I resort I grabbed my Elmer Fudd orange cap and put it on and headed out.

I never wear hats.

When I got to the church I remembered the out of date rules regarding hats... My dad did too, he reminded me of this. I explained that I had no choice because of the bed head, and went on into the church. He rolled his eyes.

When we got in there I counted 9 or 10 hats.... so there's that.

I remember getting laid off work for the winter. The company gave us our last pay packet New Year's Eve with a bonus to see us through until Unemployment kicked in. We'd show back up March 1st. As I froze my hind end off last week, I thought of this with a little more than a longing for the old days
