Bullshit..I'll smoke 3 bowls straight out of any of my pipes if I feel the need. I'll wipe them out between bowls, and run a cleaner through them, but if I want an encore, I wont hesitate.
Sure when I'm done, I'll rest if for a few days, but I don't get all weird-ed out if I reload. Briar or cob no matta.

I agree. I have a lot of pipes and they all deserve attention. I wouldn't want to neglect any. But occasionally I'll "spoil" one and reload it.

For me, I only change pipes when changing tobacco. If I'm smoking the same blend all day then I smoke the same pipe. My grandfather recently gifted me with his pipes, he had a modest collection of just 3 pipes that he had smoked his whole life and the only reason for three pipes was that he went between three different tobaccos. Being a man who always had a pipe lit and smoking away I was surprised at the relatively good condition of his pipes. being well used for over 40 years none of them showed any signs of burn through. Granted the rims were chard and they needed some good reaming but all in all they were in great shape.

I've got my first pipe and it's still a very smokable Legend, but it looks like it's been abused. I smoked it exclusively in the beginning. Of course, I smoked it too hot, too long, and to often. It developed external cracks and bulges. I completely closed the stem by biting too much and too hard.

Since then I've been learning, in large part because of this here forum.

So now I have about a dozen pipes and I do smoke a couple of bowls consecutively from most of them. By consecutively I mean...I'll smoke it...cool it, pipe cleaner it, and smoke it again the same day, maybe.

I may want another bowl sooner than I think that first bowl has rested enough...so, I've got another pipe.

I tend to rest mine for at least 48 hours. It's just a personal tic. I've known people, in the prime pipe smoking years of the 50's and 60's, who only owned one or two pipes, one tobacco, and smoked all day long, everyday. It was nice of this forum to stress resting so much. It justified growing a collection.

With close to 40 pipes in my collection, i definitely rest my pipes considerably, some more than others. That said, i sometimes will smoke the same pipe 2 or at the max 3 times in a day, either with the same blend or different blends of tobacco. I do not notice any souring at all and do not think it affects anything whether it is a briar, cob, morta etc. I do run at least 1 usually 2 pipe cleaners through it and sometimes give the bowl a quick swabbing if i am switching blends to alleviate some of the ghosting that might occur. As has been said, as long as you do not allow the moisture to just sit in the pipe and clean it out thoroughly after each bowl, you should not have any issues.

I have 37 pipes in my collection and regularly smoke about 30 of them. I very rarely smoke two bowls in the same pipe since, even though I smoke non-aromatic tobacco the act of burning and saliva creates moisture.

My dad chain smoked Granger for many years, shifted to cigars, then went back to Granger before he quit

cold turkey at about age 65. He only owned one pipe at a time, and smoked them continuously until they

burnt up. He'd keep the burn-outs for a while as back-ups, but he never had a rotation. Just kept on smoking

his one pipe until it was unsmokable. I likely have as many pipes in my stable as he burnt out over years.

I am currently showing favoritism with 2 of my pipes, one is an estate Radford S Action 9mm Dublin with a saddle bit and the other is a Rick Black Freehand Sitter. I alternate between the two letting one cool down and keeping a pipe cleaner in while I smoke the other one. Rinse and Repeat.

I never reload a pipe, I will generally go at least a week or two between bowls in any one pipe. I don't lecture others about their pipes, I could care less how other people treat their pipes, they are your pipes and you can smoke them as often as you like, however I consider each of my pipes as a lifetime investment and treat them as such.

I smoke four or five times a week. So my core rotation of pipes get a minimum of two or three days of rest. Sometimes much more than that. I don't reload. If I travel I take two or three pipes along.
