Good afternoon! I need some help to identify this pipe, what i bought today in an antique shop. The only writing on it is "Baron" and nothing else. I tought first that it will be a Vauen Baron pipe but theese type of pipes have the "Vauen" word on them, not the "Baron". What is the brand of this pipe and how old is it can be? I attached a picture of it with this post. Thank you for your help!Baron Pipe.jpg

The stamp appears to be in a modern font. I wonder if it is a smaller known pipe maker. Might check the local area from where the pipe came.

That stamp font looks to me like an after-market stamp such as is used for house pipes for pipe shops and other outfits. The pipe itself looks somewhat Vauen-like, the reserved design and thick shank.

So my guess would be that this is a house pipe from a Baron pipe shop or Baron organization that sold or gave away pipes, with possible sourcing from Vauen. But I'll watch this thread to see what surfaces. Some members have staggering detailed knowledge on esoteric lore in pipe identification.

That stamp looks similar in type to a Thompson (Cigar) house pipe I have that is merely stamped "Thompson," and "West Germany," which could well be a Vauen. Mine is a freehand with plateau on the brim but not the shank, that came with a p-lip Vulcanite stem that I replaced with an acrylic tortoise shell because the Vulcanite oxidized as fast as I could polish it out.

Who Made That Pipe has one entry for Baron and gives several options for the "maker or seller", which are as follows:
Baron & Palmer/Civic Co/Baron & Co. Country of origin is listed as USA/ENGL
You can try following up on these companies to learn if they were distributors or marketers rather than manufacturers, as well as with what manufacturers they may have been associated.
Civic, of course, was a manufacturer, part of Oppenheimer Group.

And it's entirely possible that none of these are related to this specific pipe. As for dating I'd be comfortable with late 20th century to the present.
