Yard work rocks.
when I was a kid there were seemingly thousands of baby garter snakes under the neighbor’s downspout. I caught one and kept it in a ball jar for a day and fed it hamburger and whatnot. Next day I let it loose into our lilac bush. I regretted it and tried to catch it again.. little fucker turned and hissed at me so I left it alone. ?

After about 40 years of yard work, things have gone to bushwhacking. I guess I'll hire someone to beat it all back. I have more responsibilities with household stuff, and me ancient back and joints ain't what they were. I always liked it, getting out there and making it right. I think many have farming fantasies, with those little tractor-like riding mowers. It's what we did for a few thousand years, not the riding mowers but working the land. I really like that little guy sneaking out of your glove, as long as it doesn't rattle or harbor any venom. For some reason, in town, in central North Carolina, we have salamanders. Maybe they all moved to town to find work?

I enjoy yard work for the most part. Today was tough. Spindle shaft bent on the rider, out to the store to buy a new one, put it on, start mowing and then the belt snapped (must have gotten stretched from the last incident and then was slipping) so back to the store. So, 70 bucks and 5 hours later, I got the grass cut. Sometimes I yell at myself for buying 3 acres.
