I went on a rant. Sorry. It just urks me to no end and every time I think about it I rant. Won't happen again. No politics no left handed cigs.
But I do have a pipe question. After my dad passed my mom slowly gave things to we 3 boys. She gave us things she figured we'd use. So one of the things I got was his pipes. 2 straight and 2 bent. I gave my son the straight ones. I also got his knives. One of which is made in Mexico, its a switch blade. Gold dragon on one side, black bull and matador with red muleta on the other.. I also got his pipe knife. My son "borrowed" the pipe knife. I also got back the SS youth knife and German trench knife I got for him.
One of the ones I kept has a white star outline on the stem. Holding it like you're going to smoke it the star is on the left just above center near where it goes into the pipe. It has beautiful grain. It runs up from the bottom to the top with a slight twist. It also has a flat bottom. The other just says Italy on it. Nothing impressive about it. It has rustication in spots. I can try pics if it helps. I think the spotty rusticated one is most likely a cheap tobacco store brand. All the pipes have blackened or carbonized bowls.
I did search Google to see if I could find anything. I found a website that has white star pipes on them. I know my dad most likely spent at most $20 on them. But this was around 1972. Not sure when he first bought them.
I'm 56, the first time I remember my dad smoking a pipe was when I was about 8. He's always had the same 4 pipes. He used to smoke 4 packs a day. 2 of them were lucky strikes and camel. Non filtered. The other 2 changed to what ever. Eventually he went to 2 packs and when he found out he had cancer he had been smoking 1 pack a day. He started when he was 12.
Both pipes smoke great. When I got them they looked like they had barely been used. My dad probably kept them that clean because there was no way they could've stayed that way as much as he smoked. I've kept mineral oil on them. I oil them about every other month or so. My nose isn't oily enough. My older brother hated me for that. If the wind blew on him he got pimples. Me and our little brother never.
If anyone knows anything about the white star pipe I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks for stopping by.
