As I sat in the car waiting for my wife and kids to come out of Old Navy, I was smoking my Stanwell, windows open. And as a couple walks by I heard the man say to his girlfriend "I love the smell of pipe smoke".
I was smoking Wilke Rumcake (with a bit of Five Bros mixed in) at the time. Anyway, it was nice to hear. :puffy:

About to receive some Wilke Rumcake and #191 that you recommended, Six. For me, pipe smoking is 50-50 aroma and taste. I enjoy the hint of the aroma that I get as I smoke.

Glad to hear it - it's definitely one of my favs. Hope you like it.
I find it odd because, after many years smoking a pipe, I still can't really "get" much of a room note from the tobacco I am smoking.
+1
Depending on the blend, it can be more pronounced - but overall, I have to agree.

I can't smell what I'm smoking unless I leave the room and come back into it.
In the past, when I smoked more in public, people would sometimes tell me they liked the smell of the English blends I was smoking.

I smoke on my college campus' quad whenever I have the time. I always have people go out of their way to say that they like the smell or presentation of the whole experience, which astounds me considering the looks cigarette smokers get from the same people.

In my cigar smoking years, the looks I getsmoking in the street could melt all of the ice in the Antartic-like I was a child molester or something.
Since smoking pipes, the looks are generally more curious than hateful-yet there are still some out there who look at me as if I'm a child molester 'in training'. :)

I find it odd because, after many years smoking a pipe, I still can't really "get" much of a room note from the tobacco I am smoking. Oh, it's there and I can smell it, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the blend, but it's always been much more noticeable to me when someone else is smoking a pipe.
I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for this, but you're definitely not alone; I think it's a fact of life for every pipe smoker. (And as a result, I'm always amused by those reviewers who comment authoritatively on the "room note" of any blend; unless someone else is actually smoking the tobacco, you simply can't perceive the actual aroma in the room.)
Of course, pipe smoke is not alone in this regard; there are other aromas we might share with the "room" that smell differently to those around us than they do to us. . .
