It's months between haircuts for me, then I go to a local chain and have it cut by a particular stylist whose work my wife approves. I try to go on Senior day so my stylist can keep more of the cash for a tip, a "keep the change" deal. I'm sure my wife could do a good job, but she does a lot of cooking and baking, so I contract out the haircut. I have my eyebrows trimmed so I don't look like Andy Rooney or John L. Lewis (if you know who they are), but I trim my own mustache at home, trying to tame that so I don't look so much like Yosemite Sam.

I have a device (made by Philips) for cutting your own hair. It cost £30. As a haircut around here costs £10, I only had to use it three times to pay for it. That was three years ago. Now I save £120 a year which is enough for a couple of half decent pipes or around 9 tins of tobacco :)

Mention above of Sports Cuts.... There's one a few miles from here, and is trending towards Hooters with scissors. I'll mention wet T's next time.

As a kid, we always got our hair cut at the Barber College. I remember the first time I went in by myself to get a haircut, must have been all of 11 in the late 60's. I took my seat in the chair, and when the Student Barber asked me what I wanted, I froze. The only haircut name I could remember was a Burr. So, I told him with all of the swagger I could muster, "Give me a burr". He did a double take, and said "A burr, are you sure?!!" Not able to back down now, I said "Yes, give me a burr!" I realized my mistake when my locks began falling around my lap and he finished in less than a minute. Made this 11 year old look like I was six! It took all summer to get back no normal.

When I lived in Japan, I LOVED getting my hair cut. Nice female barbers, and the massage afterwards lasted longer than the haircut. The finishing touch was the "Oshi-Borie" or hot towel. It was always the highlight of the week. Now that I'm in Hawaii, I too have the Wahl clippers with no guard, and my wife cuts it to the skin on Saturdays. (Sigh), I still miss those massages...

The last time I paid for a haircut was in March, 1992. A week later, I was married and my bride has been cutting my hair since then.
Need to get the clippers out tonight.

Shave the head daily & pay the barber with single malt Scotch, Bourbon, or Rum, & pipe tobacco. I give him a wink in the mirror when done - he's quite a handsome fellow. Just like my avatar.

As the saying goes, "God created few perfect heads...the rest he covered with hair."

I use to wear a hat all the time. Then I saw some of the guys I graduated with.

Now I almost never wear a hat, I feel like I'm bragging...
