I'm 43 now and I've yet to lose a close family member or long time friend. I've given it far more thought than I probably should in an effort to prepare for what there is no preparing for. The thought terrifies. It literally makes me sick to stomach just thinking about it. I've lost good friends, but nobody in my close inner circle. If my reaction to losing a beloved pet is an indicator, I'm in serious trouble.

You most defiantly have my sincere condolences.

You guys have me welling up with tears... Thank you, thank you all so much for your kind words, they, in all honesty, have affected me and meant more to me than I would have thought..

I'm sitting outside at the moment drinking a pint and smoking a bowl... I've actually found myself laughing alone remembering some of our times together.
I know it will get better, but right now... God damn it sucks!
On a side note... What is it about pipe smokers that make them such nice people, you guys are top notch in my book.

Sorry to hear of this. Your comments about calling each other stupid made me laugh. I have a friend like that. They are the few and are irreplaceable. Glad you had one and that you got so much ti,e with him, the bitter and the good.

Sorry for your loss. It's sad when we have to watch someone go, I too lost a friend but didn't know him as long as you knew yours. So I can't even begin to fathom the pain you have. Like you said he is no longer having to suffer. Take care and pleasant days to you captain.

Sorry to hear of your loss.......... through pain comes healing, there is light at the end of the tunnel. You will have

fond memories in your heart forever, and the pain of loss will gradually subside. Hang in there Brother.......

Cap:
You were blessed to be there when your friend punched out. Damned few of us are so lucky. You handed him off to whomever was waiting on the other side and that alone is an act of grace. You held his hand while he took his last breath and, I hope to God, my best friend and my wife are there when I take mine.
God's peace, brother. You earned it and so did your friend.
Please send me his name and allow me to have a mass said in his honor.

I, too, am sorry for your loss. One of my best friends passed away suddenly a week ago today. Although he wasn't a smoker, he and I spent many hours on his rural property talking, drinking bounce, and I would smoke my pipes and cigars there without complaint. He was a master gardener, crafted walking sticks, and kept bees to make his own honey. My friend Bruce was quite a guy, stood with me when I lost my wife, and has been there through thick and thin. I will miss him greatly. Even though I didn't know your friend, I know about how you feel.

Captain: So very sorry for your tragic loss. I lost a beloved cousin a week ago. He was like a brother to me and I'm still suffering from the devastating quickness of death and how one minute your loved one is there and the next they aren't.
Please know that you are in my thoughts, as is your friend. Both of you were blessed to have each other.
