The boys loved their tobacco too, puts a whole different perspective on us as we whinge, whine and lament a change in blend. None of us would last around men like these!
I don't know, dumping some tea seemed to piss off a whole country.
It depended on your station. If you were the captain, you could set around and bitch and moan about this year's brandy as opposed to last year's batch. If you were one of the other men on the boat and you complained about anything, you might get flogged to death. Fuck living in those times. You can have it.
I wouldn't want to live in any other times except now.

No it didn’t, not on this trip as everyone volunteered and no one got flogged to death in fact no one died on this expedition which given what they endured is all the more remarkable. As for the Boston tea party I fail to see how you can cobble hugely different segments of history into one narrative, I guess paint with the big brush and bastardize everything British was the objective 🤷‍♂️

I've been known to cobble together all sorts of things.
Relax, it's a pipe forum. Everyone here is allowed to their own realities and fictional world views. We are also allowed to make fun of them. The world is good... here. puffy

I found a patent submitted by the science fiction author Kurt Vonnegut.

“One object of the invention is to provide a tobacco pipe which may be kept clean with the least possible difliculty.”

I really thank you for posting this! It is extremely interesting to get this glimpse into Vonnegut, an author I have admired for a long time. I had never known about this side of his life prior to being a novelist and it is intriguing. I also never knew he had some modicum of interest in pipes, either. He seemed primarily a cigarette smoker. I was able to see a lecture by him late in his life, and it was an excellent experience.

Yeah that is the same country that went on a full on murderous rampage when someone did that to their opium. Just glad they mellowed out a bit before the tea thing happened.

And depending on which set of boat going explores you're talking about there was a good chance most of them had uncurbable syphilis.

Oh man not me I'd love to live in the past if I could some how be one of the people that dodged all the things that made the past gross and terrifying.
