I Just Tried Deer Tongue

Many years ago I smoked Tinderbox #2 mixture which was a cube cut burley with a hint of Deer tongue.
After I began smoking Sweet Oriental from Rich's cigar store, I had Steve Books blend some with the addition of some Deer tongue and came up with a nice dessert version.
I asked Craig Tarler to send me some to experiment with, but unfortunately this had an unpleasant soapy quality so I guess all Deer tongue is not the same.

Never tried deer tongue, but it has gone through surges of popularity. If I remember, Bing Crosby was fond of deer tongue blends. I think blenders always do well to understate condiment tobaccos, and in this case an herb, so they bring up the base leaf, usually Virginia, sometimes burley.

C & D uses it in a few of their blends. I have never tried it but have some on the way, Morley’s Best.

Anyway, I wasn't aware there were all these blends available with the Tongue.
I will get around to trying some of them.

"McGennis X", or maybe "X McGennis" that was a blend I smoked in the seventies when I was in Baltimore, Maryland. Great tobacco with Deer Tongue, wish I could find that again.
