Gotta take my wife to a hospital clinic for a bone density shot today. We'll overdo the precautions in hopes that will ward off exposure. She did arrange to do another appointment by phone, and next month the shot is supposed to be at a clinic away from the hospital, still a risk but less of one. She discussed this with her doctor, but he said it is important to go. By comparison, I'm content to stay home and do various needed chores. Bills to pay, projects to work on. For now, it's medical gloves, alcohol pads, hats to cover hair, and an adversarial attitude to pump up immunity. We hear everyone is screened at the door. Hard times. May we all see better days.

Or sensationalize it. It's serious enough as it is. Reminding the denier voices here that while this is NOT an influenza and NOT no big deal, it's also NOT the zombie apocalypse.

The population has been exposed repeatedly to pandemics over thousands of years and has bounced back. That may be a faint comfort to the sick and the dying, but it's still an historical fact.
Yes it should be taken seriously by old and young alike.

A 21 year old healthy woman with no underlying pre-existing conditions has just died here in England?.

I for one live out my midlife crisis not by buying a motorbike (been there as a young man), but by ordering a new road bicycle. The hope is that the focus on another expensive hobby will distract me both from the Corona crisis and my unhealthy obsession with pipes, tobacco and following what you all have to say about pipes (and buying guns and ammo in crisis times.. an option not open to me) :) Seriously: I REALLY hope you all stay sane and healthy!

Man, I watched the news last nigh for the first time in a week or so. I am particularly interested what the news is post the military directive issued last night, since I work in the FMCG food industry ... shortly after I went to sleep I woke up sweating with nightmares. I was simply amazed about how careful they were, on the news I mean, to make everything sound so dramatic. And it catches on too ... since my wife is a medic, and since we are waiting for them to get corona virus patients any day now ... you can imagine that we are on edge. I watched the news again this evening ... I decided only to read out official information, and keep the TV shut.

I think the level of anxiety is directly proportional to how many zombie movies and TV shows you've watched. Kidding, kind of...
No, no, you're right. All those ghastly shows have accomplished their mission to acquaint people with fear and filled their heads with all kinds of crap about the end of the world that their imaginations have been running wild for some time now; once an event like this virus does happen in real life you have millions of subconscious sleeper cells pushing their hosts to unbriddled panic.

Good not to overdose on news and discussion of the virus. Keep up, but don't keep listening when you aren't learning anything. Go away from TV and devices and do something else. Now I'll follow my own advice.

Old School 3319, I was trying to be humorous with that comment.

At least John got the joke.

Anyway, enjoy your 'staycation' and don't forget, answer the door to no one unless they are standing well back.

Regards,

Jay.

New York City
After the horrific Islamic terror attacks on 9-11, you'd think they'd learn. I live in the epicenter of COVID, NYC. "Sanctuary" NYS and NYC, are both ruled by two grandstanding, comatose, douche-bags. Cuomo, just suddenly "got woke" that NY is dangerously low on meds. ventilators, masks, medical gowns, and other essential medical supplies, etc. This state, and especially NYC, are NOT able to handle tragic crises. Cuomo-the Arrogant, has been the gov since 2011 but he whines, and complains on TV, and blames his own incompetence, on everyone else. De Blasio, the mayor of NYC, is just a total, useless idiot, and doesn't know his ass from his elbow. Between both, they'll kill us all.

I, along with my family have taken extreme measures, and have self-isolated for close to a month. But unfortunately, the odds are against us, living as we do, within such close proximity of others. There's just so much you can do. I pray, often, that none of us need to go to any understaffed and undersupplied hospitals for any reason. God help us all.

Ultima forsan......

Sumusfumus, I watched a bloke on Sky News yesterday telling the world that the making of a ventilator is more complex than making a motor car!

Now I'm no expert but if a team of Oxford University engineering students can make a fully functioning ventilator in under a week (it took so long due to components being made on 3D printers) then it's not quite the 'rocket science ' some would have us believe.

I appreciate it's not like building say a padlock or a clock, it's just not as difficult as suggested.

Regards,

?
