I used to work Fraud Prevention for WAMU ... I've had to deal with tons of those cases.
So long as you have a reputable bank, they're going to give you your funds back and reverse the fees.
The three biggest sources of somebody fraudulently using your bank account are online hacks, lost/stolen cards, and, the one that most people do not look out for, is a magnetic stripe reader that thievely a-holes attach to ATMs and "pay at the pump" gas stations.
So next time you swipe your card, you may want to look for a little box shaped device next to it.

Seriously though, fraud is a huge problem. I have started to move away from using a debit card for purchases, and use a regular credit card instead. You have more protection when you use a CC. Also, they can't drain your bank account.

Ha, yep. You don't see many people wanting to carry cash these days though.
Unless they've got more than they know what to do with.
