The much maligned USPS just dropped off a package containing a recent auction site score. I've been waiting all week, but it isn't the USPS's fault, it's mine...I'd won the auction and missed that fact for about 24 hours..or more..anyway..it was for 9 medico imported briar pipes. Various shapes and sizes. The description was for used pipes, but...guess what?...they're brand spanking new. scroll down and have a look.

I hope to have reached at least a temporary end to my quest for a nice rotation. This week, along with the above, I've acquired two Butz Choquin and a red root blasted Kaywoodie...I have one more delivery on the way. It's a Wally Frank bent bowl...I think I've got enough to play with for now.

USPS Bonus Points! I ordered 4 oz of McClelland's bulk VaPa 2015 on Thursday. IT was in my mailbox!
Now..I need to bone up on how to break in briar...or think about making a profit and reinvesting. $5.82 per pipe including taxes and shipping...for 9 new briars!?! Nice ones too. Yeah, I scored.

Nice if you like Medico pipes - I find them useful as door wedges but for $44 I guess they are something of a bargain. If you need any Medico filters let me know as Andre has a life time supply left over from his brief Medico foray before he discovered meerschaum pipes and the 'Free Pipe Project' for his Medico pipes!

I love the critique, and the suggestion! I don't use filters, and may not smoke these. I'm pretty sure I can at LEAST double my dough through resale. I'm not sure what to do. I do have several smokeable pipes and I don't NEED to increase their number.

to hawke, tuold, thanks for some positive response! Door stops!*?! I'm really glad to hear that someone here has a favorable impression and good suggestions as to my new pipes.
I fired up some of the McClelland's bulk vapa #2015...yesterday too...it's too early for my interpretation, but already, I find that it is incredible! Right out of the bag with very little drying, I got it to burn nicely and it is smooth and flavorful.

Thanks trailboss,

I'm still deliberating on whether to smoke em or keep em unsmoked. For now...they're unsmoked. For the money, I could use them as door stops. Briar door stops. Now that's classy! ( I only have 4 doors!)

Well for some reason I just cant bring myself to buy a Medico. I did buy one however. a VFQ Frank Medico or something. Found out VFQ stood for "Very Fine Quality". It was a Canadian and did smoke pretty well. I sold it to a friend at work for what I had in it, $16.
Now for some other odd reason and find it worthwhile to purchase Yello Boles or Kaywoodies. Go figure.

It was a Canadian

From what I've been able to glean...Medico was specific to Canadian distribution. I knew that a lot of these companies changed everything about themselves through mergers, development, popularity etc....but when you see a 'name' and it is stamped imported briar...and it's relatively vintage...it's likely got some value.
I'll be concentrating on learning about the craft and quality of pipes and tobacco from now on. The previously used briar pipe I have right now that smokes the best is either an LHS Certified Purex, or a French made Swiss Dry Smoker...as for briar flavoring characteristics..I have not attained that level of perception.
