There's nothing in my experience that requires as much team-work as being a line cook. You have the chance to build strong relationships- which the high-stress environment lends to
True that. There's also a wonderful opportunity to learn how to curse in multiple languages.

I have a Masters in Accounting and right now I would be glad to just have that position, job market seems as tight as ever.

Great news! The best advice I ever got was to "show up neat and clean, on time, and with a positive attitude".
Now go out there and be the best damn dishwasher you can.

Congrats on the new job, fella. You've gotten some good advice but if I may add some practical advice as well:
1) Don't put ice water in a glass pitcher straight from the washing machine unless you love to mop.
2) Always be aware. One of the moments that stick out with shame for me from my time as a dishwasher was when we were 'in the weeds' and I was scrambling to put some sorely needed pans back and I had a tamale bounced off of my back and onto the floor. I thought the sous chef was going to murder me.
3) Pay attention. I had/have no aspirations to to be a chef (or to work in food service ever again) however I would have strangers getting drunk at my house and spending the night because word got around about my breakfast potatoes that I learned to make from working as a dishwasher. I worked in a small restaurant so I did a lot of prep when I had any down time.
That's all I can think of at this moment. Again, congrats. Remember your goals and don't get caught up in the BS.

Well done, you obviously have a good work ethic and are not afraid of work. Clearly, the lady who interviewed you picked up on that. Those qualities are what employers look for and they will serve you well as your career progresses. Good luck! I'm sure you will do well.

Congrats Ben. I will tell you what I tell all my kids. Being on time is showing up 15 minutes early, dressed right and ready to work. Work harder than anyone else and always look to do extra. Employers take notice of these kinds of workers and they get promoted faster. Never get involved with back stabbing and speaking poorly about your employer. The workers who do that are the ones who are lazy and think they are entitled to a check without busting their ass.
My youngest son recently got a job at a Pita Pit in the food court at the local mall. His friend got him the job and after one week, my son is getting more hours than any other employee. The manager sees his work ethic and she wants him working as many hours as he can.

Don't forget to enjoy it, and do not touch the drinks that come back to the scrapping table. I have seen many a hardworking dishwasher cheated of promotion because he drank on the job. Dishwashing can be relaxing. I started as a dishwasher in a big hotel, worked my way up to chef garde manger (smorgasbords & buffets) & ice carver, then chief steward, then banquet manager. All in six years.

Ben:
My mom owned a small diner while I was growing up in SW Missouri. My brothers and I bussed tables, washed dishes, ran the cash register and then swamped the place out after hours for years and years.
My "Hell on a Hobart" skill set is still highly in demand with my local BSA council, parish and various civic organizations.
Grab a root and growl, kiddo. Show your new employer that you've got the sand and stones to work your way up from the bottom and be managing the joint in the next 24 months.
