This afternoon I had a bowl of Golden Sliced in my cob before I went to pick up my grandson. In my rush to leave, I forgot to run a pipe cleaner though the stem or anything/where else. This evening I sat down for a quick bowl of NightCap in that same pipe and noticed the sweet VA goodness intermingling with the NightCap. It was an odd taste at first and I wasn't too pleased at my oversight. But as I smoked the bowl down a bit the sweetness mixed with the smokiness seemed much more plesant and tasty! I think that I'm going to try mixing the two again intentionally to see what I get and how it comes out. But for tonight I certainly enjoyed my, as old Bob Ross would say, "happy accident"!

It's good to hear that you're smoking with so much thought and discernment. I probably would never have made the connection.
Also, I wonder how many other useful tobacco discoveries were made by accident.

I'm thinkin' Perique might have been an accidental development when a Choctaw Indian forget where he hid his stash.
If memory serves, I think it was Carl Ewa, in his book about pipes and tobacco, who related the anecdote about briar being

used as a expedient material to replace a broken meerschaum pipe.

I had a similar situation the other day: I've been smoking Balkans like crazy lately, and for a change of pace, I decided to smoke some Captain Black White. Captain Black usually doesn't have much flavor to it, but my pipe being ghosted heavily by Latakia, made for a nice touch to the Captain Black. It gave it what I was looking for when I first smoked Captain Black. Just a little more kick, to round out the flavor.

This is a little off topic from the OP, but you know something that really kicks ass? A 50/50 mix of Captain Black and Shortcut To Mushrooms. Wicked good.
On a slightly more on topic note, I have two Dr Grabow Freehand pipes that are usually dedicated to English blends, but the other day I smoked some Carter Hall in one the other day and it tastes wicked good, that mild Carter Hall taste with a little Latakia smokiness thrown in.

Currently smoking Dunhill Navy Rolls in a pipe I smoked 2 bowls of Macbaren Vanilla Cream Flake in earlier. There's an ever so slight hint of vanilla in the taste without hiding any of the blends flavours. Very nice I must say.
