I Gave Latakia a Fair Try.

Latakia was just kinda “meh” for me until I participated in the Latakia taste test on this forum a few months back. I really enjoyed most of those blends. Made me give it another shot, and I’m glad I did. I did find that I like it aged a bit from that experience.

It’s not for me either. I tried it very soon after I started smoking and just didn’t like it. A couple of years later I smoked through a tin each of Frog Morton, Old Dublin, and one of the Dunhill Englishes (I think 965) to really give it a thorough try. No bueno. I knew for sure it wasn’t for me, and that knowledge saved me a lot of time and money. I was a bit disappointed, as I did appreciate the creamy cool smoking qualities of Latakia. However, I find the flavor of anything more than truly condimental quantities of Latakia to be overwhelming.

There are and will be more for those who enjoy it; everybody wins

That's the beauty in pipe tobaccos-there are many different blends and styles to enjoy to match whatever occasion/taste. Smoke whatever you enjoy the most!

English/Balkan blends are my go-to. I smoke them regularly and mix in Virginia blends and a few aromatics to break things up.

I liked latakia at first, but that was short lived. I can’t stomach it now as it does make me sick. Mostly smoke non-aromatic Virginias, Burleys, and Perique now.

I have some Petersons My Mixture leftover, and I kinda liked it, but probably not enough to buy another can. Latakia has a certain quality that just doesn't hit the notes with me. Golden Sliced and good 'ol Capt Black are my go to smokes.

I’ll be posting these on the for sale or trade for VA blends thread tomorrow. The Vintage Syrian is spoke for. I just don’t see myself ever liking these I have tried multiple time over the past 20 years to like Latakia but it never taste good. I would rather pick up more VA blends that I know I like
