Not sure how it offensive as it a cry to Jesus for help, or in the least support in dealing with frustration and anger. You never hear some yell Jesus Christ when they stub a toe or skin some knuckles..... That is when the profanity comes out. Someone saying "Jesus Christ" is in the same manor that they would say "Lord give me strength" or "God help me". You would condemn someone from seeking guidance from their Lord?

I understand your views, but you have to understand mine and my view is based on several conversations with my parish priest who told me that "There is a fine line between blasphemy and prayer and that line is intent."
As for the pipe...... Post a few pics and I'm sure someone with have a plan to get you back on the puffing road!! No man should be without a good fishing pipe.

I am offended by offensive people who offensively cause my safe space to be intruded upon by micro-aggressions. Normally, my ears catch on fire (or at least start smoking), but as this is a written forum now it's my gosh-darned eyes. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to work on pipes with smoking eyes?
So, from now on I insist (in order to not be offended) that Kevin require trigger warnings to precede all potentially offensive posts everywhere on the forum.
(Kevin --- Please don't do it using the color blue, though. I am very sensitive about the color blue's feelings and couldn't bear to see it brutalized in such a way.)

I agree with your point. That such language is common/tolerated is more sad to me in the end. I should just ignore it. Jesus did not put me in charge of defending his name. In fact, Jesus did not put me in charge of anything except me. He ordered me to be a good example to non-believers, and in this I failed.

@jacks6- I also do not think "brutally offensive" applies, but I will bear in mind that it may be to some.
@jackswilling- While I am not offended by the OP's language, I understand that you, and others, may be. Since I do not get off on doing things that I know are bothersome to others, I will bear this in mind in the future, and am glad you brought it to our attention. I am guilty of using that type of language, I just don't remember if I've done it in a post or not. If I have, rest assured, no offense was intended to any person or faith. I myself am a Christian; I am just horrible at it.

I cuss. I try not to do it at, or in front of, other people. I know it does not contribute to communications, except to announce that I am having a tantrum and have suspended being a grown-up for a few minutes anyway. As an exercise, when I have calmed down, I sometimes take time to say (usually in thought only) what I actually meant when I was "expressing myself," parsing out what the real rage, anxiety, pain, and bitterness was. You find out stuff about yourself. Often, usually, you aren't mad at what you got mad at. There's an inherent confusion that really leaves you fuming.
Saying bad things toward or about religious figures is actually an inadvertent kind of confession of belief. If you really were indifferent to the name taken in vain, there would be no "relief" in using it in a perverse way. So it seems my belief is fairly strong.

Back to topic: Pictures might reveal a fix that's easy, maybe not. A repair band can be attractive and maybe $25.00 or so.
Meantime, grab a few corn cob pipes for the field and stream. Some of us have many many pipes, and among them are "beaters"- sturdy pipes that can take abuse, and if they can't, sayonara! (They also tend to be the less expensive and less attractive looking ones.)
Good question!

I suppose we could go back to the old puritan model and give out twenty lashes for using the Lords name in vain although certain groups might enjoy that just a little too much. It reminds me of the old saying about the massacrist saying 'Beat me' and the Sadist saying 'No!'

Wow!

I was NO way being offensive.

Sorry if people took it that way!

My Irish Born Catholic mother who was famous for saying the rosary every night, going to church, (along with dragging her 5 kids), every Sunday and catholic saint day, it was her FAMOUS saying when ever she got "ticked off", and I guess I picked it up too.

She also had a keen sense of humor, which her baby boy picked up..........

I am sorry.........

As for the pipe, I had thought about a clamp, I dunno if I can find a small band, (or make one).

Let me speak words to a pipe repair guy and see costs, etc....

Joe

Clearly it was not, by definition, a casual reference. But it was a stupid way to make a point. I should just ignore all the variants of Jesus (fill in the Blank) Christ. Possibly a mod can came in here and disappear my post(s) or that part of my post.

I think everyone who had a "dog in the fight" said their piece, and we all seem back to friendly now. I see no harm no foul... :)

It's worth keeping in mind that we have a diverse bunch of folks on the forum with varying ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and even a few who may be mutants from a distant galaxy...
There are some people who are going to take offense at just about anything- but there were a couple of posts on here that were clearly over the line...

Hey Joe, before one of the mods pulls the plug; as I said in my first post on your thread, I didn't think what you said was intended to offend anyone. And, in retrospect, my use of the word "offended," was a poor choice on my part. I should have said that I was bothered or something like that. You did not offend me and I want to publicly apologize to you and anyone else here who may have actually been "offended" by anything I said.
And by the way, I see that you are a new member. So, welcome aboard!
