Beautiful pipe Cigarmaster; love the blast and the spalted band. I, too like seeing just bare wood in the bowl.
Looking at your pipe with that bare wood bowl, I am thinking how enjoyable it will be breaking it in.
To put in my two cents about Canadians and Lovats; nobody mentioned that besides being oval on Canadians and round on Lovats, the shanks are long and the stems are short. My five Canadians range in length from 5 3/4 to 6 1/4 inches.

Really nice pipe. Is the wood insert between the end of the briar and the stem part of stem?
Cigar you quote the size of all your pipes as "group z" ? Do you have a link somewhere that shows the sizes you quote?

WOW! that is stunning! that birds eye around the rim, I love it... you did really good cigrmaster! You do have good taste in pipes, that's for sure.
I agree on the raw wood vs pre-carbed, but my experience on the subject is very limited as all but 2 of my pipes are estates, the 2 that were new were raw wood... so I have no comparison other than personally I enjoy seeing the actual wood inside the bowl before I smoke it.
I guess I should ask... is there supposed to be a difference? you know Ive been smoking a pipe for 21 years and I have NO clue

Thanks guys for all the nice comments.
roth, thanks for answering the group size question.
eaglerico, the spalted tamarind is part of the stem, not part of the shank.
Naked bowls to me seem to break in faster. I recently broke in two Ferndowns that were pre carbed, and it definitely took longer to build the cake than it does on my naked bowls. Plus there is just something about tasting the briar in the first few bowls, I like it for some reason, don't ask me why. There is just something more natural about a naked bowl.

I just started a thread in the general smoking section asking for pipe makers to chime in on the naked bowl vs pre carb issue. I will be very interested to hear some replies.

That's a beautiful pipe indeed! Are you going to smoke that 3 nuns on it? How do you like the combination :)?
Enjoy!

Thanks guys for the nice comments.
Judy, I don't know if there is a difference in price between those two.
dnietosi, the pics were taken by Rad so that is his Three Nuns. I have only one tin left and don't plan on opening that for a long time. This pipe will be dedicated to Va Flakes, I am thinking only golden virginia's like Wessex Gold and Dunhill flake. I do have another Rad Lovat that I smoked Three Nuns out of and it was awesome, unfortunately that tin is gone so I now smoke either Solani 633 or Escudo in that one.
The pipe arrived today and I am smoking it as I type. It is smoking fantastic and it looks awesome. I could not be happier.

I am glad your pipe arrived safely and that you enjoy it.
I always look forward to when a pipe comes in my mailbox also. It is nice getting something worth while rather than all the junk mail that I normally receive.
