Part of the test was in case of a "fizzle", they wanted to contain the plutonium... the component that was insanely expensive and time-consuming to produce:

And with that came nuclear peace.

And with that peace through terror came another moral dilemma.

If your nation gains a credible nuclear deterrent it can do anything whatsoever to it’s own people or it’s neighbors who do not have nukes without fear of invasion and war crimes trials.

Nuclear weapons are possessed by the USA, UK, France, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel (?).

Ukraine gave their up to Russia.

That, won’t ever happen again.:)

what a world...! few years later and not sure what days:

Ira Louvin was a raging alcoholic, had four wives, the third one shot him multiple times and he survived, and by all accounts was a mean, racist, foul mouthed goon, who died in a whiskey soaked crash near present day Junction City Missouri (as a passenger in the back seat.) Without question he was the greatest gospel song writer and lead singer of his era, perhaps of all time.

Ira covered the power of the atomic bomb.

Great Atomic Power

I was born exactly 12 years after Hiroshima, fwiw. During a thunderstorm. Indoors, fortunately.

I bought the first couple of Fluke albums as they were released, played them a lot over the years, they haven't gone stale really.

I’m lovin’ the Louvin Brothers! One of my favorite musical groups of all time. Satan Is Real is such a fantastic album. I guess Satan surely was real in Ira’s life. I was unaware of his colorful and dramatic life (and death). Interesting facts to know.

When I was in college in the late seventies and early eighties there was a group of kids who played dungeons and dragons who spread the urban legend that Ira Louvin made a pact with Satan, for his gifts.

If that’s true then Charlie made his deal with the Gentle Savior.:)

Like Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, and Willie Nelson and Trigger, the Louvins are simply beyond imitation, and the reason is nobody can song like Ira.

The Mallpass Brothers come closest.

Just Suppose

When Ira died a mile East of Williamsburg in June 1965 the Louvin Brothers had split up for two years because of his vile personality and non stop drinking and Ira had been banned from the Opry.

Even today there’s debate if the crash was on US 40 or a new stretch of I-70 that was still two lane.

It’s a plumb bob level straight stretch of road, which ever it was.
